farmall m,..again

can anyone give me an approximate serial number for a 49 farmall m, what number they started at in 49 an what number they quit, tags gone on mine,..my casting codes are i believe for october 1949, engine is..9-15-S,.....transmision is,..9-16-S,...am i correct that it is a c-248 engine ??? thanks

If you look on the left of this site you will see research & info then look at serial numbers then Farmall then M you will see the starting number for each year so you want to know just look there and it is there to find. Sorry will not go and look my self but now you know how to help your self

Use the serial number of the block, at the front right near where the head meet the block. Assuming the block is original to the torque tube it would be the same serial number as the tag or only off by a couple of units. Then have a reproduction tag done with that number, most guys I know would do it that way.

did find a number on the engine that looks like it could be a serial number,....FBK-199204....sound like it would be right for a 49 ????

Engine serial number 199204 came in tractor serial number 208204, assembled in November 49.

When IH started putting diesel engines in M tractors the tractor serial numbers started getting higher than the engines. For non diesel engines the tractor number was 9,000 higher than the engine when the posters tractor engine was built. Numbers were 13,000 or 14,000 apart by the time M production ended.
