Dodge 6 speed manual transmission

I have seen Dodge made 2 different 6 speed transmissions one has reverse up to the left and one has reverse down to the left. Which one is better? This is in a 2007 models I have been looking at.

Brother has one that goes up to the left has been good, 2005 though, but I'd say the 2010 and newer have the new transmission automatic and manual, there both good now, but spendy. Think both will be good, does the 2007 have the 5.9 or 6.7, think they switched half way through 07, or 08 not sure though.

Alright both good motors, the 6.7 will have more power and torque, but the 5.9 will do everything you need it to do. A 500 dollar chip will make it a 6.7 lol

If the truck is an 07 it will have the G56 trans. Reverse to the left and up. Stock to mildly modded truck it will be fine. Those have an aluminium case. About the only thing I've seen a decent amount of them do is bust the case. Then just buy another trans. They started putting these transmissions in trucks in built in Jan. 05 and later. The 6 spd they had before the G56 was the NV5600. I've had the 5600 and my father has had the G56. Both good transmissions. Me personlly I like the way the NV5600 shifts compaired to G56. My father and I now have two 6.7 trucks with the 68rfe auto. Night and day difference from the old 47 and 48re 4 spd auto. I wouldn't be affraid of the truck.

I was told over and up is the best one by a guy who tweaks them....early models.

Only complaints I know of on a dodge with the G56
1) dual mass fly wheel
2) G56 with 3.73 axle ratio has a approximately the same final drive ratio as a 48RE with 4.10

My 06 is left and down. I have pulled against a stock 6.7, and I can pull right with it. Just as soon as the warranty was out, the 6.7 got chipped, and was able to breath on its own. There is NO WAY, I can pull with it now.
I have nearly 150,000 on mine, and never had any trouble with the tranny. Had to put rear wheel seals in, and it is due for its first brake job. Probably pulled a trailer for 100,000 miles. Either a 30ft flat bed, or 26ft stock trailer.

NV5600: Reverse is right and toward dash, cast iron housing; G56: reverse is left and away from dash, aluminum housing. Limited G56 experience, thought NV shifted smoother and had better gear ratio spacing for what I do, also as others noted, the NV used conventional clutch/flywheel, G56 uses dual mass scheme.

The 2012 is good, that high out put cummins 6.7 has power, best one I'd say, last year before the def.
