I recently purchased a '96 F150 w/ 4.9l straight 6 engine. What is the secret to removing the fuel lines from the frame mounted filter?? The stainless clips came off easy but the lines will not pull off the filter!! I have changed them on other vehicles where everything was a rotted mess and had no serious issue, but this one, that is not corroded, will not release. Any ideas appreciated.

go to your local auto parts store, they have a little round on both ends(size diffrences) "wrench" type looking thing.tell them what you need and they should know what your talking about.

Get a set of "quick release" tools. Any auto parts store wi have an in expensive set.

Never could understand why they call those fittings "quick release" though!

Ah-Ha!! this is the 1st one I have run into that didn't use the plastic tabs to lock. I didn't know about that special tool.....bet it makes all the difference......just watched a video of it being used on U-tube. Thanks, guys.

Just retired my 96 and come and get all you want parts. They had a problem with the one tank over filling the other. Each tank has a shuttel valve in the pump that allows return fuel into the tank that is supplying fuel. The fuel pressure opens the return line to the tank. They get stuck if you only use one tank and will overfill the wrong tank with return fuel.Use the clip on release tool and it should come off.
