Anybody plant any Calville Blanc, or Cox"s Orange, or Esopus apples? Any comments, experieicnes, recommendations?? Thanks.

I started an antique orchard last year. Few more trees this year too. Cox"s, Wolf River, Ben Davis Baldwin and others. I tried some of these varieties and others at a local orchard a few years ago. Some antique apples should really stay in antiquity while others have a nice flavor for more modern taste buds and uses. best way is to find a local source and try some. There are also some reviews online by other who have taste tested old apple varieties. Good luck.

Some friends and I have dabbled with this. There is a few companies that sell them. The apples all have there good/bad quality. Decide what you want them for makes no sence to plant a dutchess if you want a winter keeping apple. Cox and Calviles used to be popular.

My best producing tree is a Grimes Golden, which was developed in 1805. Lots of apples, good disease resistance, but they drop about 38 seconds after they ripen. Still a good tree.
