Ford 8000 and 7700

Are there any particular weaknesses or items a guy should look for on a Ford 8000 and a Ford 7700? Each have the Dual-Power transmission. Paul
 
The 8000 was Ford's 1st 100+ h.p. tractor. Rated 105 h.p. and made from '68 to '72. The 401 engine is well proven, but the transmissions used in the 8000 leaves something to be desired. Too easy to bend/brake shift forks. If it shift OK now, and you aren't rough with it, it should be OK though. Make sure it will pull with the dual power in both high and low, after the oil is warmed up. Also make sure it steers OK after it's warmed up. Check that the rear wheel hubs fit the axle tightly.
7700 is newer ('77 to '81), and a good tractor. Rated 84 h.p. Again, make sure it pulls in both high and low once the oil is warmed. Cylinder wall cavitation can be a problem with either model, if coolant conditioner hasn't been used regularly.
 
The power steering on some was the same kind that went bad on greyhound busses and caused accidents. They can be changed over to the newer style but new parts are pretty much non existent for that style. Dad has had one for over 30 years and has loved it. It always seemed good to me.
 
Paul have no idea where you are located or what they are asking you for the tractor but I could have purchased a real nice 8000 with NEW rear rubber for $ 4500.00 Sat. Located in Tennessee
 
After it's warm hook something that will provide a load on the PTO. Turn it on, if it starts right up great. If it won't start up until you turn up the RPM's there is a problem with PTO clutch or the hyd flow to the clutch.
