Diesel push mower?

Anyone know if they build a small vertical diesel
engine like the conventional briggs and stratton
pushmower engine for a push mower. I have an old
deck and would like to build a diesel pushmower if
possible.

You can't do that, unless you put chrome stacks on it, and mudflaps.

Orange marker lights are optional.

After a quick online search, I found some small hp diesel rigs, but none vertical shaft. If you do find one, let me know. This sounds great!

How is it that some people think having a diesel is a status symbol.

Use a horizontal shaft engine and put a twist in the belt between the engine and the vertical shaft the blade is on. You will need to make the blade shaft spin faster than the engine anyway. Better make it self propelled unless you can get your wife to push that heavy beast.

I have a high wheel push mower that has a bad vertical shaft engine on it. One of these days I plan on putting a horizontal shaft gas engine on it.

they do make single cylinder or 2 cylinder diesels, but there heavy, compared to a briggs or other gas engine of the same size, not sure how much torque it would have to work in heavy grass,no blower,on a diesel means low power

Ohhh,,, some people even have diesel powered wrist watches. Try sitting around a conference table with a half dozen of those babies idling.
(;>))

BCS MOSA used to put one lunger vertical diesels on their roto-tillers. They finally smartened up and went to Honda gassers. Best engine on the planet. Maybe you could find an old BCS Mosa Tiller?????

At one time, almost everything was steam powered. Gradually most everything was converted to internal combustion.

Would it be possible to convert steam irons to diesel?

Just a weird thought from a not-too-mechanically minded guy.

I would imagine it being much heavier than a gas mower, something that you wouldn't want in a push mower. I really can't imagine breathing the fumes for a long period of time either.
Try it and report back, I guess.

Where have you been???? Modern diesels are now zero emission engines and burn cleaner and more effiecient than gas. and the weight is getting very close to gas.

Big boys don"t drive trucks with spark plugs (or push lawn mowers either). So much fun to leave it running while I"m picking up a loaf of bread, even when it"s 75 degrees.

they do make them in china. I dont know if you'll be able to find them in the united states though. you may be able to find a bigger engine in the 13 hp range off of a commercial zero turn push mower though.

I want a turbo diesel powered string trimmer. Gonna turn the pump way up so every pull of the trigger will leave a cloud of black smoke over the neighborhood. LOL

Let's see- hand starting a 22:1 compression ratio engine, heavy, noisy, and smokes. Just what everyone wants in a lawnmower!

I'm as much of a diesel fan as anyone, but for push lawnmowers, it would be pretty ridiculous.

I've been around. Tell me something. What are the odds that the OP will plink down the high dollars to buy a brand new zero-emissions diesel engine and put it on his old deck?

Now that is silly!

I like my electrically powered push mower but it is kinda hard to trim around the apple trees with the 20 foot solar panel bolted to the top.

Other countries are way ahead of us in most stuff.
We spend most of our money on wars.Diesel lawn mowers have been around for years in Europe. My dad had a diesel pump jack motor 50 years ago.Same way with diesel cars and trucks. There the norm in most places around the world and get double the milage we get,but the epa and the oil companies
don't like them.

We have had diesel lawn mowers in Europe for years. Small, lightweight, quiet and economical.Never seen a vertical shaft, but I bet theres one somewhere.
We have diesel motorbikes, too.Phil

Forgot to add in my last post. My Mercedes van had its annual inspection today. It's diesel,of course. The exhaust emissions were less than my petrol-engined Land Rover.
As far as I am concerned, diesel is the way to go. The Land Rover is for fun,it is slow and noisy, My Discovery is for serious use, it is diesel, fast and quiet. Phil
