John Deere 5010

Going to look at a John Deere 5010 within the next few days. The engine was just rebuilt and has a 619B , not sure what exactly is meant by that. What are the pro's and con's of this tractor and whats it worth. It has good tires, new paint, new clutch, press plate throwout bearing, rebuilt engine, everything works, older fenders and a late model 5020 set of fenders.

It is an orphan. The engine would have been a 531 engine not the 619. They will interchange but not without a lot of modifying. They are not a direct bolt job. So if you just want horse power then fine but you have dry clutch that was border line with much more than 175-185 horse power. The JD 5010 was only 125 hp factory. The read ends would hold 250 hp but the clutch not.

As a collectors item they are getting more valuable but not one that is all pieced together.

If you just want a field work tractor go get a JD 4630 they will sell cheap and are more factory horse power with a wet clutch and a good cab.

I appreciate the information. My neighbor is dead set on buying this tractor for $10000. He called earlier asking if I had anymore information.

You didn't mention anything about three point hitch? Lot of them were western or wheatland tractors and had no use for 3 pt and without it is no more than a $7000 tractor if that. If he's talking $10,000 then he is obviously looking at collector/sentimental values. Even then it's way high. It's not just a little bigger 4020/4010 , it's a heavy clumsey 4020/4010. Well it will be one more saved and that's always a good thing. More power to him.
