I wonder why this tractor operator has the rings over his rear wheel lugs. At least that's what they appear to be to me.

Ya and we always thought our ground had to be clean and smooth to drill wheat. Up until the 90's Dad always planted after rod-weeder. Then changed to spring tooth. Dad and neighbor teaming up Fall of 1952.

Those are road bands, and were required in many areas to prevent damage to roads and make a smoother ride. He probably had them on to get to the field and didn"t bother to remove them because grain drills don"t pull very hard so the loss of traction wasn"t a problem.

Might be road rings. From the lack of leaves on the trees,I'd say an early spring picture of oat planting.
I like that tandem drill hitch.

Looks like an old Allis tractor pulling the drills. Wonder if that was taken around '36 since tractors switched to rubber tires about that time. Grandfather bought a tractor that yr on steel then 2 yr later switched it to rubber.
