O/T Those of You Living Outside the USA

After seeing some of you post here from other continents made me think today and want to ask. What are other countrys saying about the US?
You're not going to hurt my feelings because many of us have probably heard some of the things. What I hate and don't understand is how some one can come to the US and give birth to a baby and that baby is now a citizen of the US. Then the parent(s) can take the child back to their home country and when the baby turns 18 it can come to the US and be a full citizen.
I'm sure this post will get poofed but I'm just venting...

I thought every girl in the world was coming to Britain to have children....Well it sure seems that way here in Northern Ireland, Most of the pregnant girls from Eastern Europe are here to give birth with all the free medical care etc and then they all need an interpreter....lots of wealthy interpreters getting rich on our National Health....
The USA? I love it... you just cannot keep me out of it...I have travelled through 35 states now in search of old tractors and the wonderful farming folk that collect them.
Others over here have an opinion they gained in the 50s and 60s of wealthy Americans coming over to blow about how good everything is in USA. Television and the internet has taken the sharp edge off that assumption but it is still there.

So if you are born in the US what country would you prefer them to be ?

Sam, I guess you folks take care of Europe, Here in the States we are being invaded from "South of the Border", and a lot for the same reason.

I have my feelings about the border situation and "anchor babies".

However, I am currently reading "Wheels for the World", by Douglas Brinkley which is a biography of Henry Ford and covers others in the industrial revolution that took place in this country back around the turn of the century and beyond. Really a lot of history I missed in earlier life, probably for my own reasons. Grin

It covers the role immigrants played in the revolution and their adaptation to the American way of life. So, looking at the overall scope of things, this country was founded on immigrants.

I realize that colonizing the country and today are different, big time. But it still is food for thought.

One difference that I feel is significant today and that is the language barrier then and now. Maybe it was because the immigrants were diverse and formed their burroughs but still leaned the American version of the English language.

When you make a call and the person answering the phone says "for English press 1" it gets under your skin, big time. Course nobody of importance is going to fight it; too much money coming in with the foreign language, and with the rate if internal production will just get to be that much more.

So one has to ask just how long it will be before the voice says "for English press 2".

It's fun to listen to Thoger when he's here from Sweden. He says they have a bad time with imigrants from Poland and Astonia.

The "average" view of the US around here in eastern canada? Good place to go get cheap clothes and food, terrified of getting stuck there when sick/injured due to cost, scared of crime in the big cities, don't trespass in the south for fear of getting shot, Vegas a great party spot, Florida is where the old people and kids go in the winter to get away from snow.

There's more too but in general not a lot of people trying to have kids there from here, they all make sure not to go to US when near due as it causes no end of problems legally here.

For the record, I'll shoot you if you trespass here (in the north east).

I guess its more of a worry about accidental trespass, people think of folks from the south shooting you instead of helping you if lost.

Up here for example you have to specifically post your land no hunting if you want no hunting, and no trespassing if you want no trespassing. If you got lost and had to cross a no trespassing posted lot to get to a road or whatever you wouldn't worry about getting shot.
