International 37 disk w/ broken blade

I have replaced blades before, but they were the ones next to the big nut and the shaft didn't have to be pulled. On this disk the broken blade is at the far end of the nut so the shaft, spacers, and blades will all have to be disassembled. ??QUESTION?? This disk has the bolts (3??) that hold the bearing flange up into the vertical support. The shaft, bearings, and blades will drop right out of the support. 1) Do I drop these vertical supports from the upper main frame then pull the shaft? or 2) do I remove the three horizontal bolts holding the bearing flange to the vertical support, drop it, then pull the shaft?? How have you guys replaced blades on this specific disk??? Thank you.

I've replaced blades on several disks...I find it's usually easier to drop the completebearing hanger.Your disk have bearings or boxings?

I usually drop the inside end of the beam out of it's support, remove the scrapers, then loosen the bearing hanger on the outside... then drive the gangbolt to the center of the machine, dropping the plates as it goes. On reassembly, do in reverse... then when you've got the nut on the gangbolt, rehang the beam, lift the disc and start driving the outer hanger towards the center to tighten the middle plates/spool while you tighten the gangbolt.

I've done it both ways, it's just a bit easier to drop the whole support only because those bearing bolts can be hard on the knuckles because of the sharp blades and sometimes the nuts are worn from the dirt. Not really a big difference tho.

On the No 37 that I had you had to drop the whole thing, that bearing will not drop out the bottom of the hanger as it was a hole, not a slot. Put disk on ground, loosen gang bolt then loosen bolts that hold those hangers to frame and take them out after you have them all loosened then lift the disk and if it is front you have to about pull it out by hand but if the back gang then just pull the disk forward of the gang. Also the bolts that hold the gang on adjust the end pressure on the bearings.
