I just bought me a little 885 CIH tractor with the XL cab.I know there tractors are pretty rare around my area. There is alot of engine noise inside cab.I don't know if it is coming in from the firewall or floor of cab or maybe even through the glass.I have got to try to quieten it down. How do i tell where it is coming from?

I think it is due to the fact that it is not an isolated cab. I just sold my 886 and it was VERY loud inside. My Ford 7710 on the other hand is quiet as a car.

I had an 885 years ago and it was very noisy inside the cab. You have to realize the cab fits over part of the engine hood at the rear of the engine.

The XL cab is nicely isolated from the powertrain on rubber mounts. I have a 685 with it. The big culprit for noise is the diff lock pedal and the shifters. Also, the engine itself is unusally noisy, especially when compared to a Ford engine.

That model IH 885 never had a quite cab they all where kind of noisy. The biggest reason was the engines where noisy to start with and then the cab had the motor kind of stuck under the front of it.

The IH 885 was never that great of a tractor. The ones around here had transmission issues all of the time. Even when they where "right" they where a bear to shift.

My neighbors up the road had an 885 as a chore tractor for many years. That tractor was LOUD.

I had an 885 about 14 years ago, glad to be rid of it. Loud, rough to ride and heated up.Traded on a CaseIH5140, much better tractor. 885 CaseIH tractor seemed to have a lot of noise from hydrostatic steering and hydraulic pump.
