I just got this email from the company rep. Speaks for itself. This stuff works great for keeping birds, including sandhill cranes and turkeys, from eating seed corn. Just thought some of you would like to know.

"Randy, thank you for your e-mail regarding Avipel. MI received their Avipel Liquid and Hopper Box (dry) SLN 24 (c) labels on March 5, 2012 and do not expire until January 1, 2017."

Don't know if he meant 2013 or not,but it runs til 2017 anyway. Great news.

I wonder if it works with turkey... I am so mad at them I can't even stomach thanksgiving dinner anymore.

EDIT: I meant to say, I wonder if it [i:dcfecaee3f]really[/i:dcfecaee3f] works on turkey.

It'll keep'em from eating the seed, but not from picking the small plant off right after it comes up. It kept them from eating mine. Only birds I had any problem with last year was geese. They just eat the plant and keep coming back eating the new regrowth.

I just looked it up and it says the active ingredient is a laxative. I wonder how long it will take to work on the birds. Those turkey can go right down a row and pick every seed out. What is worse... and I hope this won't be a problem...

I wear gloves when I handle treated seed, but, I still end up with some pink or green on me somewhere by the time I'm done. Now, if there is one place I don't want the effects of a laxative, it would be on a good planting day when I'm in the tractor cab for 10-12 hours a day. That makes me nervous, but I'm willing to try.

I'll try to find the satellite picture I had of turkey damage on my corn and post it.

Here is one of the pictures. They did this to about 20 acres. I'm sure I lost more than a few bushel per acre.

They'll eat just a few seeds and get a belly ache and leave it alone. I think their website probably still shows some fields where they treated the seed in part of it and not the rest. Shows a HUGE difference.
I used it last year, made all the difference in the world for me.
