2N serial number

I have a couple of 2N tractors and one has serial number beginning with *9N----- as are all others I have seen but I have one that begins with *N9------, is there a difference with this tractor or is this just a goof from the factory?

Jack........surprizingly enuff, ALL 2N's s/n's start with 9N. (ittsz Ford thing) First 2N was s/n #9N-99003, in May 1942. It had steel wheels and magneto, crank starter and NO BATTERY. (lead was being used fer bullets) Last 2N was s/n #9N-296131 in Sept 1947. .......historian Dell

Thanks for the reply, I thought it must be a factory mistake, I have owned this tractor for over 20 years and never looked at the S/N before. Had some recent thefts lately so I thought it may be a good idea to start recording S/N's. Never had theft problems around here until recently, lot of folks around here are having equipment stolen.

It has been posted previously that replacement engines came with no serial number and it was the job of the "wrench" that installed it to stamp the serial number of the original engine/tractor on the new engine. If this is, in fact, true, a fumble by a mechanic could have resulted in what you are seeing.
