I am trying to use the original key switch and starter button, but the tractor has been converted from 6volt positive ground to 12volt negative ground. How can I use the original push button starter switch with the negative ground system. I currently have a 12volt solenoid on the starater that requires a hot lead from the old switch to start.

Use the original 3 wire solenoid.
One large terminal to the battery, other large terminal to the starter,
small terminal to the push button.
6 or 12 volt, the solenoid still works, but it does make a difference
which side of it is hooked to the starter and which is hooked to the battery.

Royse, thanks for the reply, but I am a not clear about the solenoid, the 3rd terminal is normal a 12v hot lead that engages the solenoid, I'm thinking that since there is only one wire the original push button wire is a ground when pushed. (This is from the old positive ground system) How does the solenoid get entergized?

What Blackhole said is correct. If you have a replacement solenoid, make sure it for a tractor. The car and truck version WILL NOT work.

" the 3rd terminal is normal a 12v hot lead that engages the solenoid"
This is true for a car or other 12 negative ground system.
That's why the car solenoids don't work here.
The energizing coil in the three wire solenoid is hooked between the small
terminal and the large terminal connected to the battery.
The battery cable provides the power to the large terminal, the small
terminal provides ground via the push button to complete the circuit.
No other ground or wiring required.
