JDSeller 4320 Progress

The Grand daughters where a lot of help. We got all of the motor parts sorted out and cleaned. Then we spent the rest of the day balancing all the internal engine parts. Pistons, piston rings, wrist pins, retaining rings (snap rings), connecting rods, and the rod bearings. Basically everything that rotates in the motors.

The crankshaft I had to send off(it is already back here). I have Minnesota Crankshaft balance any crankshafts I have done. I send them the flywheel and dampener. They spin balance them as a unit.

For a few years in the early 1990s I played around with some super stock tractors. I built a JD 4020 that would turn 5000 rpm and hold together. Then we found out my wife had cancer so I sold all of that stuff and concentrated on her health.

This engine is not going to be turned up but I always thought that the JD 4320s where supper smooth running from the factory. I want this one to be even smoother if possible.

Have also sent the transmission gears out to be lapped finished as sets. They will be very little gear noise from the transmission. The hydraulic pump is the one thing that I have not figured out how to make it smoother. They always are a little noisy.

I know this is over kill but I have the time and the money this time to play around. I am not into motorcycles or fancy cars or any other hobbies. So this is my indulgence. The wife says if I had a car hobby it would be cheaper. LAMO

Looking forward to seeing some pics one of these days. You are lucky to have help the only way I have any is to hire it... But the hobby has to move forward what ever it takes. We ll figure a way...Good luck Bobby in Tenn

I might have a JD 4240 show up in my barn dirt cheap. It has 10,000 hours and runs rough. Looking at minimum the injector pump and new injectors. Cab interior rough. AC broken. It is a quad 4. I planted soybeans with it back in the 1990s.

I'm sure you have thought of it but, for the hyd pump what about the can and the little air eliminator valve from a 40 series. Vic

I understand. I have had a number of racing engines balanced. Old hot rodding practices find there way into our tractor engines. Recently built a 172 Ford diesel that I ended doing a port and polish job to the head, It was very constrictive right behind the intake valve.
When you balance the rods do you isolate the big end from the little end?
Would love to see some pictures as you progress.
Ron
