Update on the 3020

I asked last week about five year old fuel in a 3020 that has been sitting. I ended up taking a fuel sample from the bottom of the tank. It looked good, so I installed new batteries and it fired right up. Because of the broken shifter, it only had first gear, so it was a slow trip for the three miles home. The engine ran real well with the old fuel. Thanks for all the replies.

Hi
I missed the original post, Glad you made it home safe.
I cannot 100% confirm this as true only by what I saw and was told by the customer. this guy I work on tractors for, bought a Fordson Major diesel. It had sat in a shed for 40 years or close, as it last ran when the original owners son was killed in an accident with it.
It was put away with a full tank of fuel. These guys checked it all over and pull started it right out of the shed.
I saw the fuel that was in it when I did some work on it and it looked pretty old, so think there might be some truth in it.
This new fuel won't keep even close to 2 years. All my wrecking yards I use are saying fuel pumps won't last long for resale on the shelf and diesel tanks rust inside now in storage. This never use to happen a few years ago, now the fuel has no lubrication in it for the emissions it's causing problems and the bio diesel blend is even worse for growing slime if it sits long enough .
Regards Robert

I remember back in the 60'-80's that diesel spilled on the dealership shop floor was oily and required "oil dry". Recently I spilled some diesel on my carport floor while changing a fuel filter and it evaporated similar to gasoline.
