Went to our local health fair this morning. For
$130.00,I get a whole 'raft' of tests....They had to
stick me TWICE! ouch!Breakfast out
afterwards.....YUM!

Are these test you actually needed or tests they give so they can sell you on the idea of getting treatment for something that was never a problem before? The health care industry is making zillions these days.

I've found those health fairs (tons of nifty little give aways lol) and some related screenings to be a great value and they could save ones life via early diagnosis......Of course, for those who don't like them they are free to stay home, even better because they tend to get over crowded lol

Probably a good idea. A couple of doctors have told me that you need to get a baseline test for a few things to see if the readings change over the years, prostate at the top of the list.

There were about 10 blood tests(took 3 vials) and a colorectal test kit...You coul d choose the 'level' of testing you wanted. There was lots of heath rerated 'stuff'.Results in about 10 days.

Just like a sale in the store where they are knocking off 75%. The fact they are able to do all of the things they did and only charge $130 just goes to show how much the medical industry, as a whole, marks everyting up. Just like a sale at the local department store, they aren't going to do anything that causes them to lose money, so if they can do them for $130 and just break even, think about how much they were actually profiting when the same raft of testing, etc wasn't done at a fair and cost you or the insurance company $1300...........

I go into see my doctor next week for a check up. I fast the night before they draw blood and then go see the doc the next day. Cost me $35 co-pay with my insurance. For that I get to see an actual doctor and have a complete blood panel done. He can advise me if there are any changes since the last time I was in or if I have a new ache or pain he will check it out also. To me $130 would be way out of line.

My mother went to one of those, they found breast cancer! She had it taken care of right away and lived another 25 healthy years. My insurance company pays for one routine physical a year, no co-pay. But we have a very high deductible otherwise, it's worked out for us.

Those checkups are good health insurance. I have a checkup every four to six months since I had open heart sugery and cancer. My medicare and insurance pay it all.
