Selling parts on eBay questions and fees?

I have new gen and two cylinder parts I"d like to sell.. eBay says I can list 500 things free however I tried to list one and it wanted to charge me an insertion fee.. What happened to free? Also for u eBay sellers how do u figure out shipping?

I gave up on ebay years ago when they made palpay payments mandatory.
There is nothing free about ebay ! Many times those fees will eat up any profits.
List on here and craigslist and take what you can get.

Likewise. I've sold quite a few items on Ebay. Ebay got rich, but my pockets remained empty. In fact, I would have been money ahead to just toss several of those items on the scrap heap and be done.

I get 50 free listings per month, that is the standard arrangement. I have made some good money at it and gotten rid of a lot of stuff that was sitting around. I always start the auction at a price I am willing to take for the part, then if I get any other bids it is just extra. I always figure around 20% of the price will go for fees and set the opening bid accordingly.

After you click again that fee will turn to say 0 .First time I saw that I got upset myself . Once you click it will recognize your free listings. Heavy things you are better of to go to a shipping place of your choice and get them pre weighed for a price . You can add some for handling and I add for customs form but if you ask too much for shipping it won't sell. Heavy items are hard to deal with. I sell alot of magazines and the USPS flat rate envelope is fairly painless.

Remember as a seller you have no rights. You can't leave negative feedback even if the buyer has screwed you. And they will!

If you are shipping this generator and it fits into a postal flat rate box -that is the cheapest way to go . Get a group of boxes free at the post office. There is no domestic wieght limit as far as I know. Without flat rate boxes you need a wieght .It took me awhile to learn my lesson on under rating shipping cost. Despite other posts there is money to be made on eBay . I get free magazines at recycling center and sell for a couple bucks each. I also buy tools at sales .Any made in USA tool will sell in the first week. If it fits in a $5.10 flat rate box I list shipping as 6.50 this cuts out eBay a little on their percentage .Paypal talkes 3% of transaction and Shipping [which stinks]. If you want I will open up my email and you can call me .I will be glad to help any way I can. I took a course at high school night class when I started.. Avoid spelling mistakes and offer a refund and don't lie about any negatives and you will keep 100% feedback rating. There is money to be made .[I know I said that twice.]
I can tell you more.
I know I'm forgetting some good pointers[ like label printing -easy with known flat rate price] but they will come to me. As to your original question when you hit SUBMIT it will lose the fee and read 0.

I have an old bathroom scale that I got at a yard sale for 50 cents. USPS weight limit is 70 lbs. I always add 5 to whatever the scale reads because it is not that accurate and that way I am usually pretty safe.

sometimes the free listing offers are for certain categories , or specifcally NOT for certain ones. Often, I find, ebays motors is not part of free listing offers. I don't know why

I used to sell a lot on ebay. Not so much any more. Yes, I think the fee for listing should be free. But watch them. There will be a box checked for supersize pictures or extra pictures that will charge you by default even if you don't use it. They have all kinds of little tricks to get your money. As of a couple years ago they will charge you a final value fee on the item PLUS the shipping fees. So if you have inexpensive heavy items you can end up paying double or more on fees. What I did on some cast weights I sold last year was to list them as pick up only and then I negotiated the shipping with the buyer privately. If you have rare and desirable parts ebay is still a pretty good outlet. Make good use of your title space. Use words that someone looking for your part would use. And always include the part number if you have it. If you don't have it look it up. All the John Deere catalogs are online at jdparts.com

I used to use ebay and fees got too high, now I use Craig's List its free and with nations wide searches you can sell or find things nation wide. The only problems are scammers. Use alpha numeric for your phone number, if the selling price if couple $100 do not list the price imbed it in the description, do not return request to text and ask responders to put a code word in email subject line emails. This may seem like a hassle but it is free and I have sold everything I list. Good Luck.

I use ebay all the time. Free listings are free until you add the extra frills. I package the items up get an estimate then send the buyer an invoice and wait for them to pay then ship the item. UPS or USPS.com all have calculate shipping on their websites as long as you know the weight and dimensions. IT's easy.

I bought a air cleaner a couple years ago on ebay and it showed a very small dent. When I received it the whole other side was caved in and wasn't shown in the add. I left him a negative and he gave me a negative for doing it.

Yes but eBay changed that the seller can no longer give the buyer negative . However his dishonest description in your case was subject to eBay doing something about it as he violated eBay rules. Trouble with eBay is it is a faceless entitiy. I wanted to get them on the phone once and it took hours of running in a big circle to finnaly get through. There is some way to file a claim against liars but it ain't easy and eBay is full of liars. Always check the sellers feedbacks.Thats all you have to go on.
