Pulled in the lane this afternoon after 11 days on the road. The main goal of the trip was to visit a landlady in New Orleans. She's an old family friend who's been widowed awhile and is pretty lonely so we decided to pay her a visit for a few days and get out of Iowa's cold at the same time. Started out on March 7 and went to my sis's house in Bettendorf, visiting an old neighbor family in Jefferson on the way. From Bettendorf we went to Clarksdale, Mississippi to see Marilyn's brother and sister-in-law. She's fighting cancer and needed some support. After that we went to New O for a few quality days with the landlady. She'll be 91 soon. Then it was off to Pittsburg, Mo to visit friends. They recommended the cheese place in Osceola, Mo so we stopped and sampled. The mistake I made there was to sample a cheese before I looked at the red tag that said VERY HOT! Wooeee. Couldn't taste the rest of the samples after that. It's kind of in the neck of the woods where Old lives. Rich would probably eat that hot stuff like candy, but not me. If we would have had the time I'd have found out where a bunch of you YT'ers live so we could visit but it couldn't be that way this time, sorry. I have one souvenir, an alligator head that's sitting on top of the computer tower. Gonna spook out the granddaughters. My chocolate lab was scared of it LOL. Jim

Randy,
Back in the 70's I worked for a Division of Kuhlman Corp. They had an electrical transformer plant in Crystal Springs and I went down there to design a network transfer switch for them. I was there for several weeks. Nice country, but a bit hot for my taste(it was in July).

Fixerupper, if you went down I-55 through Missouri, you passed within 4 1/2 miles of where I live. Of course I'm fairly new to YT and only personally know 2 other members....but I have a lot of junk to look at.

We were indeed on I55. We started out from the Quad Cities on 74, went to 155, then 55 to St Louis, caught 255 and then slipped back onto 55 in south St Louis and eventually followed 55 to I10 and New O. Coming back, Ms Recalculate guided us back up 55 a ways to a road that I can't rember the name of but it took us to 65 in eastern Lousiana. From there it was north to Arkansas. Stayed over in lake Village. Next morning we went on up through Little Rock and eventually to Springfield Mo. Then we ended up near Pittsburg and on over to Hwy 71. Stayed over in St. Joe, found a church to attend Sun morn and then followed 71 home. We Left blooming flower gardens in New O and came back to SNOW! Now it's back to the grindstone in 30 degree temps and snow. If we would have had a whole month to spend I would have announced the trip ahead of time so I could have found out where you all live but it we don't have that kind of time yet. The only YTer's I've met is Old and Old Popper so far. Jim

Jim,
You were about 4 miles north of me if you took I-74 through Peoria, IL - Less than a 1/4 mile if you took I-474 around town.

I think we took 474. Wish I could have stopped by. At least I had the opportunity to see what the country is like in your area. Jim

Sounds like you had a great trip. At least you missed out on that 14" of wet heavy snow we got on the 10th. Welcome back to good old Iowa weather. LOL
