What part does the corned beef come from and why the term corned? Raised on corn?

Salt cured brisket. Salt is called corn. Must be some large pieces of salt.

It's a brisket cured in brine and salt. The term corned comes from a time when the beef was cured in grains of salt and cured for export. I did not know this, I did a search and this is what I came up with.

The type my mom always bought is also seasoned with pickling spices. It has a unique flavor because of it. I am not really fond of it - but it is ok in Reuben sandwhich about every 2-3 years.

DUH--- Does it have anything to do with the many peppercorns, that you find in corned beef???

Its salt like the size of road salt. Looks like corn kernels.

I knew it was brisket, but didn't know the origin of the "corned" part.

Tammy's mother bought one by mistake and tried to fix it like regular brisket.

She has never lived that down. It was an interersting meal.
