working on my new to me prime mover skidsteer circa 1982. had some loose bolts down on the hydraulic controls. needed to tip the cab/robs forward. manual said pull the two pins and jack the cab forward. simple. hooked up the come along and started tipping it. kept checked for all to be clear. heard a pop and discovered a throttle linkage caught and popped off. well it bent the shaft going in to the injector pump. this is gonna hurt.

Don't feel too bad, most of us have done some bad things, At least I have. Would it be possible to put a pipe over the shaft, and bend it back. It will need to be a tight fit on the shaft. Just a thought. Stan

Ouch!! I was having a tough time splitting my 9000 a year ago, finally I looked up and up by the dash there was a bolt to the sheet metal still in .

NOT a place for "presidential engineering"! If he straightens it and starts it and the governor is jammed and the diesel engine "runs away" and won't shut down, that would NOT be swell!

I have a sign hanging in the shop that says "If It Ain't Broke We'll Fix It 'Til It Is"! As careful as a person may try to be, sometimes stuff like that just happens, like the local wrench quite a few years ago that was zipping various bolts out of a 95 John Deere combine engine which was hanging from a hoist while yakking with another customer and zipped out one of the bolts retaining the lifting chain. That did NOT go well, and he found out the a replacement cast iron oil pan as NOT cheap!

Back to the IP... if it doesn't have a lot of hours on it, and need a lot of other work, that MAY not be a big $$ fix at the pump shop. HOPEFULLY, the governor housing is not cracked or otherwise damaged beyond use!

WORST part will be R+R'ing it in the confined space of a skid!

i have all the manuals, and not one of them has the r+r proceedure for the injector pump. i have the full manual on rebuilding the pump, but not to get the engine to tdc or where ever it is supposed to be to remove or install the pump. grrrrr.....its a 3 cyl isuzu qd 40 engine.

stan, i looked long and hard at trying that. if it would work that would be great!!! my luck i'd snap the shaft off internally or break the governor housing. i think pulling the pump and sending it out, altho is spendy up front, will be the cheapest in the long run.

ooof - I feel for you.

There's absolutely nothing worse than having to fix something that could have been so easily avoided.

All you can do is dig in and get it done.

But I will say some of my most creative cursing performances have occurred during the repair of such mistakes. Always a silver lining.

Deffinately will need the throttle lever shaft assembly, may have housing and bushing damage too. Hope it's a Denso or Diesel Kiki/Zexel, parts are less for those than Bosch. Will probably just break if you try to straighten it, see them broken usually when they get hit anyway.

Forgot about this. We both had a bit of bad lluck about the same time. I hooked my trailer to my truck yestrerday, and forgot to lock the ball. as I loaded my tractor for a mowing job the trailer pulled off of the ball and rammed under the tail gate. bending the license plate, and the plate that has the hole for the spair tire wrench. I know you would rather have this problem, over the bent shaft. Look at it this way, life goes on.
Stan

Or the time I jacked up the gooseneck trailer, disconnected the electrical, jumped in the truck and pulled away from the trailer- without opening the tailgate! Threw the tailgate into the woods nearest the scene of the crime- I think my colorful language gave me added strength- and it is still lying there today, some 20 years later. Someday when Mrs. (WA) and I are gone and the kids have sold the place, the new owner will come across it and wonder what the story was on the crumpled '85 Ford tailgate. Actually, I hope the next guy has enough savvy to realize EXACTLY what happened to that tailgate. . .

The purpose of Cherry pickers and come alongs Is to test the tensile strength of every cable and wire we forget to remove. (My mechanics teacher told me this with a gleam in his eye.) Jim
