a few more pictures of NJ and a story

This is a picture of an old farm house that is in the town I grew up in. It belonged to my grandmothers cousins,A sister and brother lived there. They had property on both sides of the road. They were not rich, just had a lot of land,a peach orchard and had a few cows in a big pasture across the street. The town started out as a farm town, but turned into many delopments of houses. Some of these new people turned these two old people in for having junk around their place,Also the aspca turned them in for their cows not having water in the shed ,The local old time vet at the time went to court with them for free,He explained to the judge how the cows drank from a spring near the barn, and how they had been doing it for 40 years with all the livestock, and their ancestors did it for many years before that,They won that case. They did have to clean up some though. Where the cows were was sold and houses sprung up in the big cow pasture,The two old people had a lot of money for it ,but still lived exactly the same.I remember them driving around in an old car.The last one to live was the sister,She left a lot of money to the church all my dads family went to,,and a small comunity building was built with her name on it and is well apreciated,....The ironic part is ,she left the house to the town, now they proudly display a lot of the rusty stuff all around the yard of the house,,,Some of the same stuff they used to give these people grief about,,,the boy scouts painted up the farmall tractor they had and it is on display out front,You can see across from the tractor where the pasture was is all houses. The rusty stuff displayed around the house is what I posted the other day for SweetFeet,I just didnt have time to post the whole story,I Posted those pictures again to go along with the long story.
I remember when they used to drive the old dodge pickup, and bring peaches to my grandmother.,but I was very young at the time.

larry@stines,

Really interesting story. Funny how the town's perspective changed, isn't it?

So can one tour the house? It is really Looks like it was built in the day when people had 6, 8, 10 kids.

We have seen the outside of a couple old houses in MN owned by different historical societies - but one cannot go inside because they do not have the money to fix them up.

Sounds like my town. Pop. of 1976 in 1976, now it is 4400. People move in from Boston suburbs and want all the services. Twenty years ago an old lady that owned 400 acres but no income, donated her whole farm to the town. All she wanted was for her animals to be cared for. That fell to me and a few others. It included keeping up fencing for forty acres and haying about 45. There was no shortage of people complaining about smells or lack of run-in for horses. I lasted about five years on it.

I love the story and can relate. Our small town used to be 130 residents now over 1200. We have a fert. business and two years ago was stopped by this lady. I thought she had trouble but all she screamed was " WE don"t want you here". Everyone has an opinion on a full belly.

Sounds like the people that moved from the city and built right by my cousins pig farm. Same old story, complain, complain, complain, "it stinks, smells like poop" etc.

Township told them, the farm was there first, you moved next to them, and where do you think bacon comes from. They quieted down after that.

After working in and out of big cities for a few years, I would rather smell manure any day of the week over pollution and exhaust.
