What the heck?

Is my computer the only one doing what it's doing? I'm on classic view and certain words are orange with stripes under them. For example in ACGs post,APARTMENT and SCHOOL are that way. If I move the cursor over them,a box pops up saying "search for apartments" and "search for schools".
Do I have some kind of bug in my computer or something?

Must be something in this new program- mine has been doing it , too. CL is even more irritating- box under the picture every time I look at something.....

Did you just update Java on your computer? I did this AM, and it wanted me to install the Ask toolbar and make Ask my go-to search engine. You had to un-check a box, which I did, because I like Google just fine. But the shenanigans you are experiencing sounds like something Ask would do, to "enhance your computing experience."

What Mike said about Ask toolbar seems the problem. You can load it even without the Java update, because the default selection is usually "yes", but in small print separate from the update request

It is an advertising bug,you should be able to right click on the highlighted word then you should have an option to either opt-out or uninstall the bug.I had the same problem months ago, took about 10 min. to figure out.

Bob.
I was banging awaw with the keys last night, and my "system mechanic" kicked in, shut me down, did a defrag, and then tried to install Windows 9 and said that my current browser was no longer compatible. Goggle Chrome keeps wanting me to install it also, and I keep getting an error popup which causes me to have to reinstall my handle and sometimes my password. Most of this started about two weeks ago when I got a rash of windows updates.

Simple, turn OFF your "Automatic Updates". Only download the updates that YOU want. I did and I'm a lot happier for it.

You have to PAY ATTENTION and READ CAREFULLY when windows pop up.

They word things funny in order to trick you into agreeing to install things. You'll sometimes see "Click CANCEL to accept and install this software." You don't read it and automatically click CANCEL, and BAM! you've got some asinine toolbar installed.

Google Chrome is the worst. It just installs on your computer without even asking you. All of a sudden there it is.

It's definitely not this site. It's probably the ASK toolbar, which reads your web pages and inserts context-sensitive advertising into everything you look at.
