looking to get into peach farming

and need some feedback on reputable fruit tree dealers. See so much bad reviews on what I thought were great suppliers. What experience have you had?
I would think a Massey 35 should be enough for 100 trees.

I have approx. 50 trees primarily apple and peach. I have been doing this as a hobby for over 35 years. I am now on my 2nd and 3rd generation of trees. I have always had great service from Stark Bros. Orchards. I live in the western part of TN and our weather pattern has changed and we have late frosts therefore I get a good peach about once every 3 years. Most of the orchards in this area have ceased operation. As for a tractor I use a Yanmar 1401 to spray and cut grass. I use a 30 gal, 3 point sprayer.

I have been thinking about putting in a small hobby orchard myself but what I can't get past is the cost of the trees. Do people putting in 100+ trees really pay 22$ a tree if not where does one get trees at a better price?

I would suggest Adams County Nursery in central Pa.Pa. Largest grower in the East but family owned.
I bought 50 trees about 8 years ago; only lost one.
At that time I paid $10 each. Good people to work with. google the mane

Short answer yes. It costs a few $$ for the stock. And then you get to care for them and watch them grow for a few years before they produce.

This was the first year I planned on mine producing decent, then Michigan got nailed with a late frost, absolutely zero fruit off my trees. Nature of the business I guess.

My dad planted Colorado peaches from the store and had really good luck with them. They seemed to do OK in the Iowa weather.

I hope you have done your homework. BIL has peaches. A lot of labor: pruning, spraying, thinning, picking, and storage. Not to mention you are at the weather's mercy, depending on where you live. Late spring freeze wiped out the whole crop.

How many trees would be easy for someone to care for in the afternoons and on weekends? I have a 3 acre hayfield behind my house that I currently have a 1acre market garden in and I would like to do some of it in peaches.
