Having a bad time with cramps when I turn or twist. I have had them for a long time sporadically for years but have increasingly gotten worse. I have been told that it was a lack of potassium and to eat bananas. Which in the beginning seem to help. Have gotten over the counter tablets. Now neither help. Any one else have them?

Ron,
Where you recently had pneumonia it could also be related to that (though you have experience it in the past).

Check out "pleurisy" at MayoClinicDOTcom. Has to do with the linings between your lungs and rib cage. Have to click through to "causes".

My wife gets BAD leg cramps.Lack of calcium seems to be the cause.Couple calcium pills helps almost immediatly.

I use to get them bad. i always had a bottle of potassium, magnesium and calcium from the drug store with me and took the tablets. had them for years, but they finally went away! good luck, i know how painful mine were. i went to a specialist with the problem one time.
she told me if she could see me have the attack, she could cure them. in the process of the examination; here they came! all she could say was "i hope they go away because i haven't a clue what to do" charged me like $250. after that i treated myself!

Cardiologist has me on a statin drug. When I complained about leg cramps, he told me to drink tonic water. Started to drink it and the cramps went away. The quinine is the content that is supposed to work on the cramps.

You might want to give it a try.

You have to take a multi-vitamin and calcium pills daily for muscle cramps to go away. It worked for me.

My wife gets leg cramps and takes a calcium magnesium supplement and drinks pedialyte. Pedialyte can be found in the infant aisle of Walmart

Start eating pickels and drink the brine. Especially dill pickles. Don't laugh, It works MY highscool coach recomended this years ago, and have had a lot of other people say the same thing.
Loren, the Acg.

I get spasms just above my right elbow if I lay down wrong. Need to get to the crakcerpractor.

Guy I work with was getting terrible pain in his side, massage and chiropractor were no help. Ended up being kidney stones, the water in town is so hard he was making them as fast as he could get rid of them, had to go to bottled water.

I can t remember where I read this cure but I have been doing it for 10 years now. For cramps(I get leg cramps bad at night) - this tastes bad, 2 Table spoons of backing soda in a glass of water. My leg cramps will go away before I get back to bed. If you don t belch you did not drink enough. It is cheap try it.

I'm with Loren, Dill pickle brine.
I get leg cramps, not side cramps, but it sure works on mine.
I don't know why it works, but my old country doctor mentioned it to me.

Glen, I like some Tangueray in my tonic water.
That sometimes makes the pains go away temporarily. LOL
Seriously, I find that eating a banana every day does help prevent leg cramps.
The potassium is supposed to be what does it.

Thanks Guys I will try some of those remedies will let you know which one works.

I've had the same problem before but only on about day 3 of an extended bow hunt for deer. I hunt out of a climber in Kentucky and after about 3 days of nothing but venison and beer shared at camp I tend to start cramping.

Last time I got cramps in both sides as I was trying to slowly turn to see what was behind me. Cramped up in one side so I bent myself the other way and danged if that side didn't lock up. It was back and forth depending on which side could pull harder. lol.

Hydration along with your minerals should help.

Dave that sounds like "Buck Fever" to Me. But hydration and minerals couldn't hurt. Thanks

Naw, the buck fever just sets in on one leg...trust me, I've been at full draw with leaves falling out of the tree I was shaking in.
