I have a question for you all: I have to replace my thermostat housing assembly due to leakage. I've bought the new parts from the dealer but I can't get bottom most bolt out to come loose. Looks like the previous owner had this housing replaced and the mechanic buggered the bolt head. I tried to use my bolt extractor but there is a metal line in the way to use it. Does anyone have any tips as to remove the bottom bolt? Google hasn't been too helpful.

Thanks,

Christos

Can you get a cold chisel to it, its going to destroy the bolt but it sounds like it needs replacing anyhow.

If it's leaking where the sensor might be on some models, all you have to do is take the c-clip off and pull that plug. Replace the o-ring and reinstall. Son's 03 Focus SVT was leaking there.

Good Luck

Wish I remembered, but I don't. I had to replace the one on the wife's car a few years back. Took it off and put a new gasket in first time, still leaked. Then got a new housing and replaced it, no more leaks. Couldn't figure out why it was leaking until I put it in a pot of water and put it on the stove, then I saw the crack magically open up. Nothing is made of metal anymore it seems.
If worse comes to worse maybe you can go ahead and break the housing and then you will have a little better access to that bottom screw.
