Telling the world of the lost of Stompin' Tom? The crown prince of potato farmers, lord of lobstermen, patron saint of PEI.... Merle Haggard of the Maritimes... funny thing, I thought he died years ago...

Stomping Tom was a Great CANADIAN ,he loved our country and entertained with the best!!!! He will be missed and our prayers are with his family.

I was going to mention it the morning I found out about it, just saw little point in it. Nobody would know who he is anyways, and the post wouldn't have any response. He was a Canadian legend, and will be missed.

I always enjoyed Stompin Tom's songs. Simple words and melodys that anyone could sing and strum along with. Tom went into a self inposed exile of sorts in 1978 , to protest the lack of Canadian made music on Canadian radio. His good old down home/country style music, didn't resound with the so called urban culture, that everyonr was so quick to embrace in the 60's and 70's. Like so many of the folks on this site, I always like the sound of the fiddle and guitar kinda sound, that you would hear at a local communty dance when I was a kid. Just a few good ol boys from the neighbourhood, that could play a bit, and would do some tunes for fun. Now everyone must have an DJ or pro entertainment, and it isn't realy any better. Tom Conners, wrote songs about people and places he had met, or seen. A true original. Bruce

RIP Stompin Tom. It comes to all of us eventually.

Up here on the border we were pretty familiar with a lot of the Canadian talent Like Stompin Tom, Tommy Hunter, Ian and Sylvia, Gord Lightfoot, The Guess Who, Montana Slim/Wilf Carter, Percy Faith, Guy Lombardo, Oscar Peterdon, the wonderful Hank Snow, Robert Goulet and of course Don Messner. My personal favorite is a much later singer songwriter Stan Rogers. That guy was just incredible. Of course Ann Murray is well known along with Lightfoot and some others. Less well known stateside are groups like The Rankin Family. I think if they'd got some American air paly they'd have made it big 10-15 years back.

Anyway, sad to hear of another legend lost to us.

i saw him in concert about 2 years ago in edmonton. he said this was his last tour. he could still do some mean guitar pickin for being 75. he took his breaks by sitting on a stool when he got tired, but kept on playing the 4 hrs. he even did couple gordon lightfoot songs. was kinda shocked to hear stompin tom played out. he was our jonny cash, singing about what he experienced.

That is sad to here

Bret, you left out King Ganam!

Oh, I probably left out a lot of them. Steppenwolf, the Archies, Paul Anka. There were a lot of them. I'll stick with Ian Tyson, Stan Rogers and Hank Snow. Throw in Oscar Peterson and you have everything but rock covered!

I wasn't sure how well known Stompin Tom was south of the border. I've heard his music for the past 40 years and I guess it will be around for a long time yet even though he is gone.
