Who makes these rules? Smoke detectors in scout tents?

in the winter of 67 i spent some time in an army tent with a coal fired heater. we went to sleep many a nights with the heater glowing cherry red. didn't think about it then but a smoke detector would have been a good idea.

It would be another brilliant politician idea as scouts aren't allow to have anything flammable in their tents. Just where would one hang one anyway.

if this is an ongoing problem and there is no end in sight of burned up scouts, then perhaps would be wise for a bureaucrat to get involved. otherwise, let's trust the camp leaders and parents.

Looks like some idiot tried to take a fire code a bit too far. From the article I read through your link it said that, 'common sense would prevail' and that the Scouts would not need smoke detectors in their tents after all.

Had an old sergeant one time that thought he would heat the shed we were staying in with a propane water heater. He cut the tank off and just had the burner. I got the heck out of there when he turned the gas on and pulled his lighter out to check for leaks in his lines.

probably the same kind of idiot that was responsible for 254 homes being burned here, and probably he wasnt a scout, and has no idea that scouts cook their meals on a fire usually, thats part of the fun as i remember, those smoke detectors would sure have been raising ned with us on some of our campfires, one thing you learn as a 12 year old is firewood that is green or damp doesnt work too good
