OT My Daughter's New Job

Our Daughter got a part time job in St. Louis at Busch Brewery. She has been trained on the machine that fills the beer cans and installs the can tops.

She came home last night and told us a little about her position.

The machine fills 2,130 cans of beer per minute.
That's a lot of cans in one day running 24/7

On a yearly basis that equals out to right at 4 cans of beer for every man woman and child in the USA just from that one brewery. I guess I can quit worrying about running out.

They can put out the product that's for sure. Wife and I toured the big Bud. brewery in Jacksonville a couple years ago. I got a kick outta' watching the robots lift the kegs. They replaced the personnel on that line partly to reduce the back injuries. Sure smelled good driving up to the place!

I'am glad that my effort over the years has enabled your daughter to get a job. I'll try to up my consumption so she can get on full time. LOL

Oh, so they're adding horse pee instead of water. Great, anything to help improve the flavor. LOL

When our son was going to college in Stevens Point WI we toured the Point brewery, neat little place, lots of hundred year old equipment. Then one year we went through Bush in St Louis, The barn for the Clydesdales was bigger than the whole brewery in SP!

When I worked for IBP they had an interesting fact posted - all the cattle that were ever driven up the Chisum Trail would not be enough cattle to run their plants for a week.

Wow---brings back OLD memories...when I attended Point, I could buy a 16 oz. glass of Point Beer for $0.25....on "tap night"..

Late 60"s, early 70"s...

Good for her. I do my best to keep up with production.

I generally drink Busch Light. A cousin from Germany was here, and I gave him one- he sampled it, made a face and said "vasa bier" (water beer).

She might be innocently exaggerating a little bit, maybe, maybe not. I remember telling my two daughters at least a million times not to exaggerate!

I agree with your cousin. The only beer I drink are German varieties, especially the darks, and occasionally a Czech beer. Delicious and full-bodied and strong. The American beers to me taste like watered-down pee. I've never even had a "lite" beer and hopefully never will.

LOL that's why I make my own. After my first tour of Germany I couldn't stand the typical watered down American beers.

Well your daughter is definatly not on drugs as they drug test the heck out of you just to get near the place. In Newark they used to have a tapped keg in the cafeteria, free beer . That idea was squashed some time back. They say the unpasturized beer tastes best and they sneek into hiding places to drink them like that. It's two weeks no pay if caught.

At 35.5 cans per second it certainly isn't filling one row of cans at a time. I suppose it's possible to fill that many cans per second if there are enough spiggots or whatever they call them, filling enough rows of cans. Jim

I had to give up when they stopper making Strohs, Hamms ans Schlitz. "When you"re out of Schlitz, you"re outta BEER!"

I was stationed (USMC) with a buddy from near Stevens Point.....He always brought Point Beer back from leave. Did you hear about the "lite" beer from Point? It's called Point "Less"......

I think Coors canning division developed the hydroforming machine for the can bottoms and it puts out 3000 cans per minute.

I do contract engineering for the other big US brewer. She is probably telling the truth. The large can lines run in excess of 2000 cans per minute. They are single file, one row. It is just a blur. You can't see an individual can. The overall magnitude of a large brewery is amazing. The thing you need to realize is that is only one filling line. The brewery probably has 10 filling lines or more and they have multiple plants in different locations. Do the math, the number of cans or bottles per day is huge.

I used to know a guy that worked at the Bud brewery in Columbus and he would tell us sometimes to go buy a certain one of their brands, usually Busch or Busch lite because it was was really Michelob or Budweiser that had not turned out just exactly to spec and got put in the lower grade cans.

The "other big US brewer"? You don't mean Miller, do you? It, like AB, is foreign owned, but they produce here. Just like Toyota, Honda, and Kia. I know a lot of guys who call people who buy these cars un-American, but they drink these beers. They almost turn themselves inside out when trying to explain

I anticipate having my own private supply in the future. My older daughter's new husband is in to brewing big time, hopes to have his own micro-brewery some day, and now my daughter is brewing too. I have tried about three different brews they made, ain't too bad.
