Nice Day To Run an Antique Tractor

Beautiful spring day today. I combined two jobs. The Cockshutt 50 needed a little exercise and I needed to put a load of oats through the IH hammer mill. Mission accomplished.

You just reminded me, that I need to run a thousand lb's of shelled corn, thru mine , for the cows Monday.I'm down to 100 lb's in my bin. I'm useing my biggest screen @ 5/16", and need to find one 1/2" or courser, for ear corn. (Sears)

Would you believe I use the biggest , coarsest screen in this hammer mill? Used to always think I had to run the small hole (about 3/8 inch) screen for grain but I get good results with the coarse screen normally used for hay. Plus my fine screen is worn out.

That mill sounds like it is really humming along. Tractor sounds good too.

You are going to catch a rash of @#$% from the people on here for what you did at 2:31 in your video.

I'm mad at myself for doing it. No worries though. There is enough blowby pressure to keep any dust out of the engine. :)

Yes you saw it too, stepping over the belt.
OK, guilty as charged. But really its not as dangerous as you might think. I've done it for 40 years and my dad did it for 20 years before that without incident. It is an endless belt with no steel lacing to catch clothing.

Understand completely. I try to err on the cautious side, trouble aways seems to creep up when I least expect it.

Thanks for posting, but I wouldn't call that spring! In spring we have stuff growing and birds nesting etc, but nice to see how other parts differ. We used a lot of Ferguson hammermills here, fitted to the 3 point linkage of course! Here is my old friend Jackie using my mill.

Good looking little hammer mill you have. Never seen a three point mounted model before. It would certainly eliminate the belt alighment problems I have occasionally with mine. It would however take a lot longer to put my 150 bushels of oats through it if I had to bag and handle all the chopped grain. Mine has the fan and blower directed inside the bin so all I have to do is keep it fed

(quoted from post at 09:43:14 03/03/13) If that is a Wetmore hammer mill, I have the same thing. Used to grind heifer feed with it belted to a Mcormick W4. We never used any screen. Bruce
The mill in the video is an International Harvester. Quite old. I can't see any numbers to indicate what year it might be. It has a fibre drive pulley. Swinging hammers much like in a combine straw chopper.
