You posted a ways back about if you could pull percentage pulls you might think about pulling. I assumed you knew but they pull percentage at Ithaca , Shepherd , Fowler , Remus and most of the small town carnivals. It really is the great equallizer and requires some figuring and dice rolling as to weight. Lot of time the little tractors win because the track isn't tore up yet by the time they are done. Fun time.

Both our local clubs pull 'percentages'.It is a great equalizer. The smaller tractors often 'outpull' the bigger ones. One club pulls the smaller tractors first, working up to larger ones, according to weight. The other one simply pulls in order of check-in.Pulling percentages against 'yourself'(bragging rights)lets everyone play-poor boys(like me)to "rich guys",field tractors to 'pullers',rust buckets to hi-dollar 'restores'.If we gave trophys/prizes,it would would soon become a 'richmans' game-the poorboys would get pushed out.Sometimes/often the rustbucket field tractor will outpull the restored puller. We ALL can play and have a good time without "competeing'

We use a common wt transfer sled. The further down the track, the more wt on the shoe.Say your 5000 lb tractor pulls 7500 lbs.Thats 150%.Our two clubs each use a different 'standard'.One,we go by the lbs on the shoe. The other,we measure the lbs pull on the chain.Very different results.Either way is fun.The second,We have an expencive electric sencer in the chain linked to a digital display.the system is similar to an electronic truck scale.Clear as mud?

These are the two sleds.Sorry these were the only pics I could find.Green sled belongs to 'West Slope Antique Power.Blue one belongs to 'Thunder Mountain Flywheelers. both sleds are homemade by club members.BTW,First two are Susan pulling 'Chloe'(51 SuperC),Third pic I am flagging(love that job!).Last one I am pulling a '46 Oliver 60.

I didn't know that. Thanks a bunch for the info. I thought the Flat River bunch ran most of the pulls around here and they don't do it as far as I know.

Not even. For instance if you have two tractors the same weight. One pulls 100 feet on a hard dry track where the sled slides on the dusty dirt. The next tractor weighing the same takes the sled to the only damp or heavy spot on the same track, but only goes 80 feet before stopping as the damp dirt has made the sled harder to move. Can the second tractor win this pull as it may be able to exert more pull on the chain because of better traction on the damper dirt?

Simple. The tractor that pulls the higher percentage 'wins'.The variables(wet, dry, loose, hard) really dont matter. It's just the 'luck of the draw'.

Never heard of that, Don't think it would go over with them here. Distance is only way. If the club I work the pull on would try that STUNT and that is what it is I would be out of there before the pull started.

rrlund , those I mentioned run percentage pulls but with dead weight boat , not nessessarily a transfer sled. Sorry for the confusion.
