A couple of nice looking Planters

Looks like the planter that Dad had. I remember helping with the check wire when I was barely able to lift it. I think the clicking of the tripping check wire made the horses nervous for awhile until they got used to it.

I never thought of the clicking making the horses nervous but I can understand that it would.

John B.,

Very nice. On the International, is the U shaped wire for lifting the marker arm?

When you do return to work, I will miss your photos.

One I found this one in a barn in East Texas. Was made by the Kelly Plow Co. of Longview, TX. I sold it to a gentleman at the Wichita Swap meet that said he spent many hours behind one in his younger days. Brought tears to his eyes as he remembered those times. Enjoyed a good conversation with him about how they farmed back then. They would plant acres with it, not just little plots. It had the seed plates for cotton, corn, and some others.

The International looks alot like the one back in our woods. Ours has 2 markers and seed lids are dome shape with the IH logo on top. Don't know anything about it though.

I got one maybe a little newer than the top picture of the I-H. I plant about 10 aces of corn a year with it. Mine has the optional feritlzer attachment on it which is still good. I also use it to siddress about 4 a. of pumpkins a year. I fill the fertilizer hoppers and straddlle the rows of pumpkins. The seed dealers still have the I-H seed plants for them planters.

Sweetfeet,
The wire was there just to support the one marker when it was in the down position. The "U" shaped wire just enabled it to be use for both sides. The marker was manually moved from one side to the other.

Next Friday is the planned date that the doctor is going to release me to go back to work. But I don't have any plans on letting all of you down by not posting any pictures. I still plan on posting a picture for the day even when I go back to work. Posting a picture each day has helped me get thru the last 6-8 weeks and given me something to look forward too and chat with so many here. Then Larry asked me to do "Tonight's Feature" for one week and I continued and enjoy that every night. I get quite a few emails suggesting topics for "Tonight's Feature", so many I have to write them down. We have a good one starting tonight that may run for quite a while and will be interesting to watch. I feel bad sometimes because I don't even have a picture for the feature of the night.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoy the pictures. Thanks John

Nice pictures , and I have used a planter somewhat like the #1 except no wires on the markers. In fact it had a marker for each side. With the set up the way those cables or wires are that would be a very bad set up for the operator using the reins for driving the horses.

John B.,

Will look forward to more picture postings then.

Hope all goes well when you go back to work!

It took my husband several months beyond getting off crutches for his foot to get real good again (he had broken the outer foot bone into 4 pieces stepping off a forklife while wearing (then) company-required work boots with a built in steel metatarsal shield... what was supposed to protect his foot - actually broke it, while at work (what irony). *They have since switched to sort of a fluffy, thick boot tongue to protect the top of the foot.
