I may need a head for one of our old school 7520s with the 531cu motor. I was wondering if a 619cu head will inner change, or any other heads that might inner change. If I use a different head will my old air cooler inner change? Any suggestions appreciated.

Our head is for sure shot. It has had a manifold gasket blown apparently for some time and it has ate out the head. We are still not sure about putting a 619 head on it. The reason for wanting to put it on is its got a lot more metal around the intake and exhaust ports where the manifolds bolt on. We know they use the same valve cover gaskets but the head gaskets are two different part numbers so still not real sure.

Not to be a smart butt but it may or may not. LOL I know that helps a lot.

Some of the 619 cylinder heads will interchange with the 531 head. The difference is in the age of the block and the age of the 619 head. The early JD 5010 block will not seal around the sleeve with the 619 head. The later JD 5020 and 7520 will seal around the cylinder head with the 619 head out of a 30 series age of engine. The newer 619 engines have a different relief around the valves and will not mate the earlier blocks.

This is from memory as I have not done this switch in over thirty years. We where doing it on some of the self propelled forage harvesters. I do remember we did it but had to have a certain cylinder heads for it to work.

pictures of the head - they don't show it real good

looks to me like if that's all that's wrong, it would be welded up without too much issue. Weld it, then mill it flat and it should be good to go again. If needed it could be ported a little bit to just to clean up the weld inside the ports...

Its already been welded once probably while it was still on the tractor the way it looks. The head is so rotton that they was going to have to grind way back into head, possibly quarter inch, to get to good metal and then recasted. It was also cracked by every injector hole.
