Equipment companies

I've always been a die hard international harvester fan, and new holland equipment is one of the finest. My qustion is, Is John Deere really the only all american company left? Its so sad that the great american farm equipment manufacturers arnt even owned be an american.

Another example of executive mis-management. I left AC when I saw the handwriting on the wall. Once the technology leaves the country, it is very hard to get it back.

Isn't Agco American owned? It's the Allis Gleaner Corporation, owned by American investors who wanted to save the Gleaner brand when Allis went under after the whole Duetz Allis debacle.
I own stock in Agco and I'm an American.

Even Deere has moved a great deal of work out of the country in the past 10 years. Some of the utility tractors are made in India and Mexico. The compacts have been Japan built for many many years. I believe most if not all of Deere tillage mfg. is in Mexico and I believe Welland (Canada) Works (farm loaders) also moved to Mexico a few years ago.

Deere still has a good deal of its mfg. done here in the states including 7000 series and up tractors, cotton pickers, combines, sprayers, hay equipment and planters/drills/seeders. Lawn/turf equipment is also here in Horicon, WI. It think even the cheap line of mowers is made somewhere here in the states but I cant seem to remember where.

In the Const. Forestry division they still make skid steers, motor graders, backhoes, and crawler dozers here in the States. Ooops I almost forgot about the 210 Landscape loader and scrapers down in LA.

Nothing is 100 percent American and has not been for a while if you are looking at factory locations. Deere has been bringing in utility tractors out of its plant in Mannheim, Germany for decades now. The 4435 combine also came out of Europe in the mid 1980's but the worst fears were never realized in terms of all combine production going over seas. Deere stock trades on a public exchange which does not forbade foreign nationals from buying its stock. Having said that Deere is still overwhelmingly a US firm with most production still inside US borders.
The US farm equipment industry is no different than other industries in that there are far more paths to failure than success over time. Look at how few farms make it to the centennial mark. Some people have better management ability, more vision towards the future, and just plain good luck they have never had a legal disaster whether they caused it or not.

John Deere is the oldest continually owned company in America. Meaning that the company hasn't been asorbed into other companys. The Deere family still ownes controling interest in the company.
Untill E.I. Dupont sold out some years ago they were the oldest.
Pretty good to be started by one man and one plow.

John Deere Des Moines Works (actually in Ankeny) still builds Self Propelled Sprayers, Cotton Pickers, Grain Drills, and Tillage Equipment. Kinda weird to see cotton pickers in the heart of corn country, but there seems to be alot of them on the interstate, Lots of tillage stuff on trucks too but its mostly in pieces, so its hard to tell what it is.

deere is the only real american large tractor company thet being said i believe to get a 'real 'john deere you have to buy 50 hp or up, the smaller ones [yuppie tractors] are made by yanmar , most yuppie tractors [ less than 50 hp] are imported, no matter whose mane is on them,

Agco appears to be totally US owned. I looked up Agco ownership on NASDAQ and it appears the many holders of the company are all US. Deere is still the only one that has remained total US ownership throughout it's entire life that I know of. Here's a link on Agco history. Jim
Agco History

Deere is the only tractor manf. in the US that make its own engine also are a big OEM supplyer for engines hyd drives and trans

Brother in law is a painter there. Pretty high tech . Floor is grating that moves up n down . Down side ,,full body suit, summer time , he says pours gallon of sweat out his boots .

Deere and AGCO are both US headquartered, globally active, publically traded companies. I'd think actual ownership would be quite broad.... much like their manufacturing and parts sourcing.

John Deere is about as foreign as an American Company can be! I have a 1992 3055, Built in Germany, & with a French built Engine! Got a JD hat for Christmas, & its made in China. Waterloo built tractors I think have Mexican engines. Correct me if I'm wrong. They may be headquartered here; but I really don't like what I call a "Conglamerated" tractor!!!

Sort of. Some MF tractors still use Perkins, but most use Sisu, which was owned by Valtra. Agco bought it when they bought Valtra-Valmet.

I know they own alot of different brands butI would consider them a holding company. I know in my area its hard to find parts or many equipment dealers. New Holland, Case IH, and John Deere are easy to find. Maybe I'm just impressed with them?
