pickup bed damage

anybody else been noticing the large numbers of newer pickup trucks with large vertical dents in the side of the bed, either before of after the wheel openings. it appears the wheels spun and the truck moved sideways and hit something. i seen it on fords and chevy with 2 or 4 wheel drive.

Just saw a Ford in town like that. Crease was behind the rear.

I had one in my last pickup. It was because the idiot at the lumber yard threw a large bag of dirt at the pickup and didn't throw high enough. You should have seen his face when I came flying out of the cab. Needless to say, they got to pay for some repairs.

On mine those dents are from Brahman cross cattle trying to beat their pals to feed in the bed.
Note to self,"never drive your pavement priencess into a pasture if you see cows with flop-ears".

I see a LARGE number of them rusted out above the wheel openings along with other spots too.

This metal is so thin and the large smooth panels make for easy denting. Older trucks used to have several sharp creases in the metal forming style lines that made them stiffer along with thicker gauge metal too.

My favorite truck bed for a truck to use is on our 1 ton dump. Made by Crysteel. We got it with one side that folds down like a tailgate to make easy loading from the side. Heavy metal you can strap things down and haul long stuff up over the top cab protector. And of coarse it dumps and you can tailgate spread gravel out of it too.

Probably some one leaned against it, putting something in or out of the box over the side If they make the sheet metal any thinner they will be flopping in the breeze.

Neighbour just creased his truck bed, backed into a post, and the bumper end (which wraps around the body a bit) put a crease into the bed, vertical, just behind the wheel well... bumper looks ok... 2012 Chev... but all the new truck have very thin sheet metal... cars too

I put the first dent in my pickup from a gate....railroad crossing gate. The truck was bigger than my S10 that I used to zig-zag thru with. Those long freights used go thru at 10 mph.

da.bees,
Mine have ruined the mirrors on the GMC rubbing their horns and heads on them. I am still in the process of trying to get one of the old ones off to replace it. They don't make the nuts easy to get to on them.

That is somthing I never have nor never will do. I suspect people have had choice words about me at RR crossings but I stop 3 car leinghts before the gate if it's down in case I'm rear ended, wherether there is a train or not at the moment. Even slow down at uncontroled crossing to look and listen as long as it takes to know there is not so much as a homless guy walking along the tracks before I cross.

Well, in my case, I was trying to teach my nephew how to drive. Figured there wasn't much he could hit in the field, but he somehow manged to nose into a spot he couldn't get out of going forward. So I told him just back it out the way you came in. He managed to back it int othe front wheel on the 9N. He was so rattled, he forgot to push in the clutch and really creased it bad in front of the wheel well. He also broke the key in the spindle.

That truck also has a good sized dent in the bedrail from a chunk of firewood and another from a cut up '85 Dodge on its way to the scrapyard. I know it's only a 4-cylinder Ranger, but it's a TRUCK, so it's gotta earn its keep.

They sure do. And if the trailer is made of angle iron, and it jacknifes far enough, the corner will actually punch a hole in your truck fender. Not that I would ever do that.
