Today was my turn for the bad luck!

This morning I went to the hedgecutting tractor at 7.00...all filled with diesel and greased last night. It would not start, not a kick, tried jump leads from the jeep, no good, ended up fitting a new starter I keep on the shelf. Now the battery charger was on all the time and it started right up, even though we had a keen frost. After lunch I could smell oil and noticed oil on the grass. looked underneath and I had a bad oil leak. Raced home as fast as possible, but could I find where the steel pipe went to. It just disappeared behind the fuel tank. So had to take the floor out of the cab...got it disconnected but could not get it out, so made up a rubber pipe and got going again ....3 hours lost!...It gets dark here at 6.30 pm and all lights were on at 7.00 the hedgecutter electric controls stopped, tried switching off some lights and it started again....raced home and fitted a new alternator and recharged the battery, another hour lost! back cutting again and at 10.30 the electrics stopped...... again. So I have packed it in for the night...the charger is on and I will have to start a bit earlier tomorrow morning.... our deadline for cutting is the last day of Februrary!
No money made today!!!!!!

Retired Farmer, Sam lives in Ireland and trims hedgerows for people. If I am correct, they use hedgerows to mark property boundaries, etc.

Sounds like you ended up close behind one of those manure spreaders everyone was talking about earlier today! Or, as the old saying goes, "When it rains, it pours".

Last day to cut hedges so that birds have time to build nests and start to breed.Sam will be able to cut again after the breeding season is over. Don't know the date, but many months away.
