Does any one know of the tractor company called M-R-S

Scotts SC

We once had an old M-R-S a80 or a80b 4wheel drive she was a beast. we used it in cane, peanut, corn.....etc fields, but I was just wondering if anyone else has an idea of what I'm talking about I grew up in Florida that might help a little.

The Army had some, at least 1 I got to drive 1 at the Army Engineer school at Ft. Belvoir Va in 1966 Had a 6-71 Detroit I think.

Here is what my tractor book says about the M-R-S.

M-R-S Mfg. Company, Flora, Mississippi.
The first origins of M-R-S Mfg. Co., are unknown, but it appears that the company began building four-wheel-drive tractors in the late 1950s, continuing for several years. It also appears that the tractors were sold primarily into specialty markets;there is no indication that the M-R-S was widely sold into the grain country of the western and midwestern states. Several sizes were built including an A-100 that was capable of 265 horsepower.

I agree M - R - S = Mississippi Road Supply. There were some at Ft Belvoir in 1963 when I was there. I had a picture of one that had a Cummins (like a 220) in it.

I was at Belvoir for 3 months, Fall of '65, for my second Special Forces demolition/construction heavy equipment training. I remember training on a rubber-tired front end loader like that.

Two fun memories from there....it was an NCO (Sgt) level course, and most of us were still PFC's. (No one, whatever his rank, while in SF training, got promoted- we trained with E3-E8). One TDY Sgt got into the dragline and rotated, couldn't figure out how to stop rotation! Kept going round and round! Funnier than H!!! Reminded me of the guy in the song about the ? by the Kingston Trio----WTA? He'll never return, wife throws him a sammich?

Had some other fun memories from there, but this was my prime......Army vets know what a CMMI inspection is. OK- night before the next door company has theirs.....and a few of us in the NCO demolitions class are Special Forces in the neighboring company.....we are AIRBORNE! and we don't take any crap from legs (non-AIRBORNE). So we couldn't care less how they do on any inspection. Soooooo...I stuck a water hose in the mess hall dumpster, letting it run all night, flooding the street............it was sooooo much fun watching the spoons (cooks) mop it up, getting ready for the CMMI!. I served on 9 posts, and they were the worst cooks....,.they DESERVED it.

Years ago I drove an IH 806 for a friend, in the distance was a yellow 4 wheel drive tractor with a bulldozer type blade pulling a tillage tool. I asked and was told it was a Mississippi River Special.

A farmer 10 miles from me had 3 of them up until last week. He sold the last one at auction 2 weeks ago and it wound up in my buddys recycle yard cut to pieces. His had 6-71 Detroit inline engines and Allison trans. They were very simple built, heavy, and even had 4 wheel steering. One bad thing---It took 10 acres to make the circle to turn around even with 4 wheel steer. The three he had supposedly came out of FL and were used to pull cane wagons.

I looked at the first one I've ever seen a couple of months ago in north Mississippi. I didn't know what kind of tractor is was when I was looking at it and couldn't find a serial number plate on it.

Believe your song reference is to the Boston MTA-seem to recall: "Now he'll ride forever 'neath
the streets of Boston; he's the man who'll never return".
