OT: Ford 250 truck key switch

The key switch on my 89' F250 was getting hard to turn. Coincidentally, the starter was sluggish and the power up hills was horrible. Well I shot some WD-40 in to free up the switch. Did a nice job. The starter immediately turned over faster and I could swear the truck has more power up hills. Anyone ever had this happen? Was this the miracle cheap tune up we are all looking for?

Yeah I had a 79 F250 6 cyl, useing oil, no power, engine rattleing, oil pressure 10lbs,puddle oil every time I stopped. Dumb farm hand said the sending unit was leaking, he replaced it and we drove the dang thing another 12 years. Good oil pressure, no oil use and a lot more power.

I doubt it. We have an 86 model that keeps binding up the switch mechanism. I have had the column apart several times. The way the cast parts are made there is too much friction on the parts. Thought I would fix it good the last time. Cleaned the moving parts up real good and greased the heck out of them. Big mistake. Got cold out and the grease got hard. Almost couldn't turn the key. I took the switch assembly out and sprayed penetrating oil down in the bottom. Helped a little till it got cold again. Put in a new used column last fall and the key is still hard to turn in it. May take it out when it warms up and clean all the parts and just oil them this time.

My 93 lock did that. Went down to Car Quest and bought a lock with a new key. Then the counter guy put it in for me too. No charge. Works great.
