Every time I need to use this stupid thing it goes brain dead, wait maybe thats me. Any way this printer is telling me the left cartridge is messed up. New cartridge about 6 copies ago, have not used this in a couple of weeks. Is this a piece of junk, if so what is a good one to get. I have a bunch of copying to do this week and can not be fooling around. Your suggestions are more than welcome.

We have an "HP" and one time I installed an ink cartridge and forgot to remove the tape that was over the contact surface. Took me a while but I figured it out after I pulled it back out.

If they still make Kodaks, don't buy one. I fell for their cheaper ink BS. It is set for a certain no. of copies regardless of print quality and then quits. Both cartridges. You can't just replace one. What a rip-off. That's my complaint. Now I have a cheap Canon from W/M and it is working fine and will print with one cartridge empty and goes until the last gasp of ink. I have had canons and lexmark and I have found that an HP 8500 series Office Jet Pro is reliable (not cheap ink, but big cartridges. Solid printer scanner fax copier. It is all we use for color. For B&W printing a Laser HP1509 series or similar are cheap and stone reliable with months between uses, and many many prints per toner ctg. Jim

We have a Canon MP560 original cost was around $60.00 the ink cartridges we get off ebay for $7.00 a set including shipping.
Cartridges come with a new chip in them already so the printer does not come up with faults.
Does real nice color work, not the fastest machine but for the amount we use it it is just fine and economical.

I really love my HP Photosmart Premium print/copy/scan unit. Has slots for memory cards so you can print directly from them if you wish (I do not use them though). Has a tray for paper and one for photo paper.

I use the scan and copy features a lot. It prints really nice photos. Ink is not cheap and cartrides are small - but does a great job. Had it for at least a couple years now. It also has a touch screen which I like...easy to check ink levels, or run into a problem and it can "show" you a little tutorial on the steps to resolve the problem.

I bought a Hewlett Packard OfficeJet G85 scanner, printer, fax machine years ago. Have run a lot of paper thru it. Ink runs about seventy some dollars to do one ream of paper.

I had a Lexmark very similar to yours, and it did some very similar shenanigans, almost from the day it was brand new. I put up with it for a few years, until it developed a few new glitches. Did some research and learned that Lexmark is getting out of the ink jet printer business, so I researched other brands, and finally settled on an Epson W-2540 wireless. So far I am extremely pleased with it.

Took the old Lexmark, along with 3 brand new ink cartridges to the recycler.

Animal,

Based on the number of desktop printers that are out there, I must certainly be wrong in my opinion. However, I personally, have never had a desktop printer that I was completely satisfied with.

I currently have a Lexmark S405 and an Epson R320 at home. I have an HP (but I can't remember the model number right now) at work. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend any of them to a friend.

For no good reason and with no warning, they will hang up and simply sit stupidly until I unplug and replug them. The copier function on the Lexmark quit yesterday. The Epson frequently thinks it is out of ink even when I have new cartridges in it.

Good luck with how you proceed. I don't know what I'll try next.

Have an HP F4180-printer/scanner/copier. Been real good. Ink not the cheapest, but seems to last a long time!

I have had three Lexmark printers all junk. The last one jumped out of my truck going down the highway.Had an old Epson that clanged and banged all the time. But it printed good and lasted me ten years.

Anmial ,

Using the printers utility program, clean and align ( test print ) the print heads , take the cart. out and replace them and tell the printer that they are new or uninstall and reinstall the printer , update the drivers or software , buy new cart. or buy new printer . I had a few lexmark printers and always had good luck with them . Their cheap printers .
