Dang new tractors.....

These new Yourapeein designed tractors had to have been designed by a mad Bavarian puzzlemaker. Had to call my main mechanic on my 6400 the other day. It's been peeing a small amount of hydraulic oil for some time and we couldn't spot the leak. Well, it started pizzin the other day and we had to sideline it. Trouble is, we need it to feed every day. Fred and I tore into it today, and a steering supply line under the deck is where the leak is. Trouble is, we are going to have to have a new one made up and reroute it because we can't get the old one out. We can see where it goes, and where it came from, but not how it gets there. One thing about the older tractors- you can see where stuff is....

I had the misfortune to use a new JD 4 whl drive with cab to load hay this weekend.Theyre definitely NOT fat old man operator friendly to get in and out of and can't see spear over hood. Was happy to get home and unload with my old school equiptment.

Same thing with cars and power equipment. I hear some say the newer stuff lasts longer and pulls harder which may be so but applying advanced technogly like closer tolerance mechaining to old desighn would acomplish the same.
The mechanic who did jobs I couldn't handle in the past actualy asked me not to bring my modern diesel to him.

Got a CaseIH Magnum a few years ago, and liked it so much I bought a Maxxum, same age. Well, it's definitely "Yourapeein". I don't like it nearly as much. Neighbor has a JD same size and vintage, and I like it better. I think that one was still made here.
Anyhow, I've got a young CaseIH specialist(and he's a good one) coming next week to help me change some power steering hoses on it. They looked nearly impossible to me. I used some colorful language in my communication with him. He didn't disagree. He doesn't have to guess, he knows they're a %#$&*@% and said so.

There is a couple of those hard to do ones on the KUBOTAs we have a double male that lets us screw the new hose to the end of the old one then as someone works the hose we feed the new one in and have had luck getting the impossible done.

I'll take a new cab over a sound-guard. At least you can get in and out of a 71/72/8900 series Magnum, but they suffer one of the same problems as the sound-guard: where the **** do you put your right knee when you turn to watch your implement?

I was working on a skidsteer some years back where I had to replace a leaking line. In that case there really was no way to reroute so I wound up having to take mounts out and raise the engine to even get the old one out, much less the new one in.

Think about the newest stuff, it's going to be worse than any of what's come before. I say this because mfgs are now having to cram more EPA mandated parts (ie-particulate filters, DEF tanks, etc, etc)into the same amount of space they did the engines without all of the extra crap.....

Is your JD 6400 a low profile one??? If it is they are miserable to work on under the floor pan. I have a regular JD 6400. It just turned over 15,500 hours. IT is a mfwd with a loader. I have used the heck out of it. Really have had very few issues with it.

Nah, it's a regular cab. But, it's still tighter than a tick underneath. We can't get the old line to move, so we're gonna have a new longer one made and re-rout it a bit....
