blade skids

I have a big dozer blade with the skid pads to control depth. The problem is they tend to dig. Has anyone ever tried to put a gauge wheel on their blade? Thanks.

i havnt BUT my thinking is that,

1, weight would be more than wheel bearings could
hold,

2, the water and dirt would chew up said wheel
bearings pretty fast

3, i would think that they would get tore off too
easy because they would have to be set out far
enough from the blade to "swivel" and thus getting
knocked off..

this is my 2 cents take it for what its worth :)

Huskers,

If you are trying to move dirt/grade, I have seen the road crews have a setup like that on the back of a JD310 or Case 580. Its a six way box blade with gauge wheels, they are quite the heavy duty setup.

If you are trying to move snow (like I was), the shoes kept digging into my gravel and I was tearing up the drive way.

Old on here gave me the idea to weld tabs on a 2" piece of well pipe and bolt it over the cutting edge. Works perfect. I have about 5 years on it so far. This would work for spreading out dirt and such. It wouldnt work on tearing up virgin soil. I will try to post a picture tonight. The blade weights 885 lbs according to the manual.

Rick this is for moving snow mainly. It's a front end blade on a 4wd tractor but I think that idea would work. I think I saw some pics of you or olds set up a while back but if handy post a pic or two, Thanks.
