It was real cold here on Sunday, around Zero Fahrenheit. Went to my second oldest brothers place and pick up a load of hay for a horse farmer near me. Bro Bill is all decked out in his barn toggs, and near frozen, A retired cop and 65 years young, this is his 1987 CaseIH 585 with 2200 loader. The barn in the back ground was my first dairy. He bought the place from me in 2004 when he retired.Bruce

How has your winter been so far? Looks like not much snow around. We've had a real bear of a winter out here, tons of snow, cold and wind. I spent the weekend cleaning out my yard for about the 20th time. Started to snow and wind got up as I was finishing up, this morning I could hardly get out of my garage. Arghh!!

Bruce,
We were going to start tapping trees here today, but it was 7F here this morning and a windchill of -9. The weather watchers are saying we will hit 40F and rain, tomarrow. WTH is with that pic? It is 17F as I am posting. Just can't wait until tomarrow to see if they are wright. LOL

Most of the snow you see in the pictures, we got last week. We have had a soft winter, with many warm spells.Where are located in Sask Jim? In 2011 when I was out there ,hundreds if not thousands of acres where under water. Hope that don't come your way with all that snow. Bruce

Loren, very few trees tapped around here anymore. We used to hang 200 bukets and boil down in 2 open top kettles that held about, 20 gal each. Lots of smoke flavor in our syrup.Love to see your sugar bush pics, a much better way to make syrup. Ours was more Pionner style.I only have half a dozen maples on either of our farms now, but I still miss the time in the bush. Bruce

Bruce I'm in the south central part of Sask. 2011 was one of the worst I've seen, only got about a third of my normal acres in. South and east most guys didn't seed anything. Our snowpack hasn't quite reached the 2011 levels but March is often good for lots of heavy wet snow. Saving grace is last summer and fall were dry so the soil will be able to handle some of the runoff.
