OT ford F350

Trying to decide if I want a project this big . Got a bank repo 2005 F350 4door dually 6.0 diesel in shop . Bad motor , lifter needles through oil pump. Truck is clean 4x4 , may be able to get it for 6 grand ? Rebuild motor ? what kind of costs ? used motor ,,risk of junk again ? 40 hr labor to pull cab off and motor out . Pass or jump on it ?

Yup,

Pulling cabs is quicker than pulling motors now. Bryan, D&R has pretty good experience at pulling the cabs.

yea,,I have had cabs off a few of them . No way around getting motor out on these with cab on . Just wondering what kind of money pit this good turn out to be . Nice truck otherwise,,all the bells and whistles.
Dave ,,did you get your dist on the machine ? I saw a dist machine on Cedar Rapids craig's list for $300 week ago .

Long block replacement is $5000.

Is the 40 hours to replace the engine or to simply pull the cab and engine with another 40 to reinstall?

I would pass on that in a hearbeat. You can buy a really clean late model Dodge pickup with a gas motor for $6000 that you can drive another 150,000 miles without pulling the cab off.

I wouldn't waste time putting another 6.0 in it. You wont recover the money you would have into it. My 06 6.0 crew cab dually 4x4 that's been parked in my driveway for 10 months will be getting a 12 valve cummins when time and money allows. The 6.0 can't seem to make it past 60,000 miles without needing major repairs again even with all updated parts and deletes. A 12 valve will go 500,000 miles without a problem in most cases.

My younger brother had a 2005 6.0 - he cusses the day he sold it (150K) and bought a 6.4 back. He's now selling the 6.4 with 65K on it hoping the new Ford diesel is better.

Yea kinda leaning that way ,,even after the updates ,, I tell my customers if they own one ,they need to keep 4-5 grand on hand just for repairs..Guess I need to take my own advice, lol ,,just needed to hear it from someone else. I 'm getting new truckitise but will wait for something better to come along

put a 7.3 or cummins in it.. I just sold my 99 7.3 6 speed ad bought a 03 cc drw lariat with 73k miles and a 7.3... I saw so many adds for the 6.0 at really good prices just could not bite the bullet with as much bad stuff as ive heard and seen people have with them.

From what I've seen 6.0 trucks command little $$$ compared to an older 7.3 with way more miles.

I'd only buy the 6.0 truck if it was well less than 6k and you could use your own labor to either swap in a 7.3 or 5.9 cummins. Check out Ford Truck Enthusiasts, there are lots of people who have done engine swaps, and perhaps some that will encourage you to build a 6.0...

I'd consider something like this a hobby project, not a ticket to a truck to drive today.

We just installed a Ford reman 6.0 in a '05 F-350 ambulance. We bid the job at 30 hours. My tech did it in 24 hours, and did not pull the cab. he has done quite a number or the 6.oh no engines and has some neat time saving tricks.
