In regard to Ebay buyer/seller feedback. Who should leave feedback first? I feel the buyer should be first. Lets take a poll plz.

The seller can no longer leave negative for the buyer. Now alot of sellers just give feedback immediatly after the transaction. If you get taken advantage of on eBay it won't matter much about the feedback. The good thing now is you can click on all the seller negatives and make a judgement call. Not everyone with bad feedback is a bad seller . Most with ratings below 98 are to be avoided. If the seller has thousands of transactions and say 12 negative percentage wise thats not bad either . You can't please everyone. As a seller I just leave good feedback after the transaction. I have money back guarrantee so I don't have any problems. Only neg I ever got I think the guy opened with a razor knife and cut the product himself. He got a full refund but it was too late to retract the feedback .He only had 8 transactions . Most negatives come from new Ebayers that don't know you offered full refund and did not communicate with the seller.Beware of the newbies.Once the seller could not leave negatives for the buyer many just thanked you for the transaction right after it occured.Doesn't matter much.

As a seller I always leave positive feedback soon after the customer pays. I have only had one negative feedback out of 300 so far and it was someone who bought a cordless drill listed as "for parts or repair" and then complained that it didn't work. This was when I was new to eBay and I didn't know about contesting feedback. That was 21 months ago now so I have been 100% positive for a while again. What bothers me is people who buy and do not pay and I can't leave them negative feedback because the transaction has not been completed(which is why I want to leave the feedback.)

The seller is normally the first to leave feedback, usually right when the item ships. That's when I leave feedback for a buyer, it's part of the commnication. Think about it, the seller is paid and the item is shipped, the seller's only role left is to leave feedback, why not do it then. Positive feedback is more important for a seller than for a buyer, why antagonize a buyer by waiting.

If the buyer does leave less than positive feedback the seller can still leave a response to that feedback. As a buyer I feel it is rude when a seller waits until after I leave feedback.

I would think it's appropriate to leave feedback once the transaction is complete. I had a situation where I purchased a part from Tasca Ford. They delivered on time and it was the correct part and all. They left me positive feedback. I then asked to return the item, which they agreed to. I'm not sure feedback in my regard-returning the item was neccessary.

I also have over 300 transactions as buyer and seller. I've only had one guy that I thought his description of the item was a little iffy.

I bought a big dinner bell from a guy and his description was by the manufacturer "Crystal Bell Co. His pictures were a little obscure and when I got it, it was manufactured by the "Krystal Bell company. It was still a nice old bell and the wife was happy and it looks good in the back yard...so be it.

I did let the guy know, I thought that was kind of hokey, but he didn't get it.

Life goes on. I've been using ebay since 1999, never lost any money and still have 100% feedback. I only had one guy didnt show to buy a car. Every thing else has been pretty good.

It doesn't matter. The seller can only leave a positive feedback, even if he gets ripped off.

I don't give a damn about feedback. I leave the one work "Thanks" when I get around to it. If a buyer does not pay or if they bid and then cancel bids they go on my blocked bidder list. That's how I do it.
Oh, and yes I have over 3700 100% positive feedbacks
I used to figure probably half of my buyers left feedback. The others never do. I doubt if the percentage is that high any more.

That part of eBay needs to be amended. I agree wholeheartdedly. The non-paying buyer has kept your product off the market for x amount of days, and the seller has no way on making others aware of his previous actions. That's not right!!!

If you are ethical and dealing honestly, then you would leave feedback as soon as that person has completed their end of the deal. That means the seller leaves feedback when they are paid reflecting the buyers performance (either positive or none, those are the options). Buyer leaves feedback when they receive the item or a refund if applicable. Some sellers will not leave feedback until they have received positive from buyer. I guess they feel burned if they leave a positive and get a negative. Seems childish to me but they can do whatever makes them happy. Ultimately...who cares?

Oh yeah, this reminded me to go update mine. Guess what? Now ebay has a large pop-up blurb over each buyer Quote "If this buyer has violated eBay policies, let us know. It only takes a minute and helps us protect the selling community."

Treat every one like they are a damned crook? Yep, that's ebay's thinking. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt. I'll treat everyone as honest until I learn otherwise.

And I don't think Ebay needs to be my mother.

I've been selling on ebay for 12 years with 100% positive. I always leave feedback when I get paid. Sometimes I have to coax the buyer to leave feedback for me but not very often. I do think it's poor that the seller can't leave negative feedback for a buyer. I've always been honest with my description and communicate when I have to. This helps show the seller's integrity.

If I'm selling, I leave positive feedback if they pay. If I'm buying, I leave feedback when I receive the item. Seems like the best way to do it in my mind.

Ebay has a whole separate system for non-paying bidders now, instead of negative feedback.

The problem was that sellers more often than not would give buyers negative feedback in retaliation for the negative they received. Even though the buyer did nothing wrong, paid on time, paid in full.

There are a lot of kooks on both sides of the transaction too, so it's never 100% predictable.

I leave feedback when I receive and inspect the item. When a person pays for an item, he has completed his end of the transaction. The rest is up to the seller.
Why would seller want to leave less then positive feedback, If He Could????

Feedback is irrelevant. Ebay is a thing of the past for me. If I need used tractor parts, I'll go to the swap meets where I can look the seller straight in the eye to see if he is being honest.

I buy quite a few old post cards on ebay and it seems like well over half of the sellers now leave feedback just as soon as I pay for the item...I usually pay immediately after I win the auction which they really like.....

I [ the authur of the thread] leave seller feedback after it is paid and shipped. I have 100 percent feedback from the ones that post back feedback.Seems 50 percent don't leave feedback at all to me. On my buying end,the sellers leave back the same way, right away. Most are bigger sellers that know, I guess.

Talk to the neighbor who ebays in the thousands, he always leaves feedback, and receives about only 20 percent back to him.

On another note, the sellers not being able to leave negetive feedback, is not right. The world should be a two way street.

Just wanted some of your feedback on this. So let me "thank you " you people on this.

Feebay has really changed. I used to use it often for selling and buying. I haven't sold for years now because of the high fees they charge. I still buy a few things once in a while. If I'm selling, I leave positive feedback as soon as the buyer pays. If buying, I leave positive feedback as soon as I receive the item as described.

Have had a couple transactions go bad... One was a defective item, other was a failure to ship (claimed to have in stock, but unable to deliver - you figure that one out).
Both sellers about went BALLISTIC when I posted negative feedback - One called me a couple times offering me cash to withdraw my negative feedback. Other offered to refund the money, if I'd ship back the item. Let's see if I got it right --- paid $15 for the item, another $15 for shipping. Now he wants me to pay another $15 for shipping the thing back???? Nope, don't think so.

I used to buy and sell on ebay quite a bit. I rarely even look on there anymore. my wife still sells on there occasionally. I have 700+ and she has 1700+ positive feedback. We probably had another couple thousand combined with our old user ID's. Ebay made everyone that used their email address change their ID years ago.
As a buyer I leave feedback when I get the item. I don't care if the seller leaves me feedback or not.
As a seller I leave feedback once the transaction is complete. That means when the buyer leaves me feedback or contacts me to say they are happy with the item and transaction. If they contact me and are not happy I don't consider the transaction complete until I remedy the situation. Some buyers don't like that I don't leave feedback when they pay. So be it.

I've had 3 negatives. First was a buyer that left me a negative as soon as I quoted a shipping price on a shop manual. I quoted the USPS Bound Printed Matter rate. The buyer demanded I ship it for 1 cent!!!!!! The guy was clearly just causing problems. He had a very long list of negative feedback from sellers. That was years ago when the feedback system was a two way street. Now the feedback system favors the buyers.
My second neg was from a seller that never sent my item. She couldn't produce a shipping receipt. I left her a neg. She retaliated left me neg then contested the neg I left her. What a joke. I wouldn't agree to binding arbitration. They removed the neg I left but wouldn't remove the neg she left me. A few months later she relisted the item I had bought and never received. I contacted feebay. They said sorry. Scrolling through her feedback there were several negs she had removed. She knew how to play the system.
The 3rd was another shop manual sale. The buyer never paid. I left him negative feedback for not paying. He retaliated and left me negative.

Does feebay still use the detailed seller ratings? That system was another fiasco. If the buyer doesn't leave you perfect scores ebay keeps the seller from listing stuff. At least they did. Some buyers would rate low on shipping price but we always charge what USPS charges without marking it up.

It was a real free for all in the early days of ebay. People could leave feedback even if they hadn't been involved in an ebay transaction! That didn't last long.
