Well it looks like I am going to replace my recently deceased GM 6.5 with a 1994 Cummins. This truck has 104 k miles and the automatic was just replaced with a beefed up version. It also comes with the Amco warranty.
I wonder if it will haul my 10k lb trailer any better than my old GM did?

Stock, they are okay but not fast. With a few modifications, it will have twice the power. Nice truck and really low miles!

YES ,, don't let JUST anyone toy with the motor, unless it is broke .. un molested and not HOPPED UP , the factory cummins will go a million miles trouble free with just normal maintenance ,,/ that will outlast 2 pikup bodies in 40 yrs time /////mile after loaded mile , trip after trip , day after day , year after year ,, dollar for dollar ,you will not beat the economy of a Dodge Cummins Diesel ,, especially the 12 valve motors which that 94 should be ...i own a 95,, it was the very 1st of many club cab diesels in Harrison co. ,,.20 mpg with 5 speed clutcher,,330 thousand miles spending 18yrs always outside ...

It's Cummins day here. You must read about the fuel plate mod. Don't have to buy the expensive cutout one , just open the existing plate gap about 3/32 inch. Then install pyrometer so you don't cook the beast.
Here's my 96 12V. 20 mpg pulling 16 foot boat and 1000 lbs of equipment. 18 mpg with 120 small bales.
140 on the clock

I'll go along with you on that one. Leave it stock. My son pesters me to put a programmer on my stock 98 24 valve because a friend of his did that on his 2002 3/4 ton and it has amazing acceleration. I say no and will continue to do so. I'm already reeling from $1000 in a new clutch and $3000 into a new rearend. Nuff said! Jim

I spent months looking for a 1st Gen ("89"-"93") Dodge Cummins, the few that did show up with a 5 sp were snatched up for $4500. More engines for sale than trucks in those years.

I finally gave up and bought a Ford at a price I could not refuse.

I put an automatic programmer on myu '96 1 ton dually and enjoy the much increased fuel milage local driving. Been getting avg. 18 mpg. Easy to set back to orig. for pulling hay trailer.
And at $4.00+ a gal. don't take long to pay for the programmer.

Here's my '93 doing what she does best. Day in
and day out loaded around the farm. 250,000 on
the clock and going strong.

Here's my '07.5. With 310,000 on the clock and
going strong, she spends her time on the highway
traveling to pick up hidden treasure.

Mine will be 20 years old tomorrow; 1st generation Cummins in a '93 dually.....totally stock. Special ordered about the first of the year and it was delivered on February 14, 1993. Something better than 300,000 miles (speed-o-meter is broken). Replaced the starter and radiator; except for wear items brakes and tires), everything else is just like I got it...........well, the paint's not as black as it was. Almost afraid to say it, but even the air conditioner still works. The 5-speed Getrags have a bad reputation, but I've had no problems........pulling a 32 ft gooseneck cattle trailer and 27 ft flatbed, before I retired. We've got newer vehicles, but this is still what I get in when I need to go locally. Haven't checked the mileage in years, but it usta get about 20 mpg empty. With 12-15,000# of cattle or an 150 hp tractor behind it, it was SLOW off the mark from a red light, but after the turbo spooled up, it ran just fine. I've no doubt that I'll own it 'til I die.

If someone is pestering you about how much faster their truck is, tell them you have an Allen wrench in the glove box in case you feel like making them spend another 5 gran to catch back up.

If they didn't put a good torque converter in, you'll need that warranty.

The pin is turned, but that's it. Mileage is starting to tapper off so it's probably time for injectors and a pump recondition.

If that 94 has not been tweaked or had the valves adjusted then it needs done , the 94's were light on getty up and go . If you do not know how to do the valves then take it to someone that knows . Yo can tweak the pump easy and with the stock fuel plate you will never over fuel it but it will perk it up by moving it . But getting the tamper proof screw out is FUN then ya back off the aneroid and that is easy .
