2 pictures of my raised beds

The raised beds are made from rail rod ties and then filled with composted horse manure and hay mix. This has worked very well for me over the years and produced some good crops. I do top them off from time to time with fresh manure and let sit over part of the winter

Whats all that green around there? I haven't seen that green since last May? Do you use them as hot beds too?

That has got to be the same green sprouted up around my parts, west central Mo. Came up after hurricane Issacs rain. Won't die. Really green under hedge rows. Guess a guy should spray. Not thinking of garden for about a month

Wish I knew what that plant was but it grows all winter and takes over every thing. Been trying to get rid of it for years and just just keeps coming back

old,

I did a raised bed of flowers with railroad ties. The one thing I do not like about it, is that it requires a lot of watering because being above grade makes all the water drain out of it.

Had thought about doing raised vegetable gardens, but decided not to because of the watering issue.

Old I'm pretty sure that is chickweed. I"ve got it too. 'Hardy little devil....grows all winter. Livestock should eat it readily.

My bed sit so that run off form the house roof feeds them and my normal garden so that is not a problem with my beds. Plus behind the house is a big hill so again more then enough run off if we have a good year

John B.,

Thanks for the link. Good idea.

I will have to think about it this spring...the raised bed is just on the back side of our well house. So it would not require a lot of equipement to get water there.

Hey Old, young fella! That looks like a nice stove in the background. My son and DIL need one. How much do you want for that one?

Sweet feet, I have been trying to figure this raised bed thing out, because we have some drought time every year where we have to water. Raised beds would have to need more unless you put them in a very wet area.

That stove did work sort of when put out there but only the top burners worked. The oven smoked one day so I replaced the stove. Now if you want it just come and get it
