Ebay problem what would you do?

I bought a motor of ebay the other night. I got a really really good deal on it. 200$ for a 1k dollar engine. I called the seller the following day about shipping...Its a 5hr day but he offered freight shipping... He told me it would be cheaper to ship than drive the 5hrs to get it. He said to email him my name, cell and address... I did this and have yet to hear from him in almost a week. I really want the engine but I'm not going to pay until he send some contact... Any other ideas?

Open a case with Ebay. They rule sellers with an iron hand. Your money will be refunded if not satisfied and the seller may be kicked off.

I havent paid yet. Im still waiting he was supposed to send a new bill with shipping and cost of motor... Also he's a notable seller with a decent rating. Im just wondering if hes playing the waiting game since i skinned him cheap on the motor...

To me that is the #1 reason to use pay pal. If the seller doesn't accept pay pay I don't buy it.I use pay pay and the paypal account is charged to a credit card. Double protection. When you pay by pay pal the seller automatically has your name and shipping address, he doesn't have to ask and you are protected. I have only had to use the dispute process once ,but it works.

You should be covered under "Ebay Buyer Protection".
I'm sure it's a scam. You didn't pay any money so he doesn't want anything to do with you. They don't want you coming there because the engine probably doesn't exist. Like you stated Jim you got a $1K engine for $200. Sounds too good to be true to me.
I've been selling on ebay for 12 years and when some one doesn't communicate back after 3 days the deal is almost certain not to take place.

I forgot to mention that yes the seller should have your address and number if you bought it under your ebay account and not a friend's acct. So he should not need to ask you for that info.
I sell more than I buy and always have an address to ship to.

What did the conditions of sale say about shipping? Was local pickup acceptable? If so, then you're within your rights to demand picking it up yourself. But if not, and if shipping costs weren't stated up front, you left yourself open. Has he given you a price for shipping? It might well be cheaper than driving there.

Also, since you didn't pay him in four days, he can open an unpaid item case, in which you'll have another four days to pay. My suggestion is you Paypal him the 200 bucks right now, so the ball is in his court. You can always send him more money if freight turns out to be reasonable.

I had a junkyard in Detroit play that game with me for about 3 weeks trying to skirt my phone calls and not give me the engine. It was really funny until I found out where the address was and drove there with my truck and trailer and told him to get the engine NOW. His eyes got really big when he realized I wasn't kidding. Those idiots had not even pulled the engine out of the bus it was in and I had to spend the entire day standing in a muddy junkyard trying to get this idiot to pull the engine from a bus. It was ridiculous. I did get the engine though. They were some shady charactors and it worked on 99 out of 100 times until they met me. I really didn't see what they thought they were going to gain by not selling the engine. I left him bad feed back and put the exact story word for word on ebay. I didnt care what he wrote about me at that point.

you didn't skin him, he put it up for auction and thats what it brought, sometimes things work in your favor sometimes the other fellows and maybe he is working out the shipping but it is definitely worthy of more investigation on your part.

I pay through pay pal on each item I buy off the internet. They gurantee money back if not satisfied. If a seller don't accept pay pal I won't buy.

I agree. I buy frequently on ebay, but I use Pay Pal exclusively. And, like you said, if a seller doesn't take Pay Pal, I don't buy.

I never have had a problem. In the case above, it would appear to be one of the cases where if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. A thousand dollar engine for $200?

Just because you got a good deal on does not mean it is a scam. I sold a COMPLETE Ford Industrial engine on ebay in the original crate for $ 500 dollars. It was a surplus crane engine that my company no longer needed. Probably cost between 4 and 6 grand. Man drove from NE Ohio to TN to get it.

REMEMBER! You have a limited time to resolve a dispute. 60 days if I remember. If You need to cancel the transaction; then I would do it within 30 days. It needs to be completed: Meaning approved, rebutted by the other side, & removed by the 60th day! I lost out once because I thought it was after 60 days.

He sent me a quote last night... Its a 6hr drive from my place to his and the shipping is 195$ im better off just to ship it then spend time fuel and wear and tear on my truck... Thanks for the advice.. I always use paypal as well. Also in his add it was local pick up only but he would also ship freight.. This is the first time I've been a little worried on ebay but everything worked out...

Guys, up until now NO MONEY HAS CHANGED HANDS.

There is NO SCAM. You gotta read and comprehend all the sentences, fellas.

Right now the seller is almost within his rights to file a complaint against "JohnDeereJimOhio" as a NON-PAYING BIDDER.

JohnDeereJimOhio, I see he has gotten back to you. If he hadn't all you could have done was keep calling and writing.

Always use a credit card!!

Paypal resolution is a joke. They like everyone else figure out a way to not get your money back. Had one time that I bought an item on ebay for less that $20, paid through paypal and the item hadn"t arrived after 3 weeks. I filed a dispute with paypal and they basically told me the account I paid too was closed out and I was out of luck. Second time it happened to me I used a credit card, told my CC what happend, they refunded my account and left Paypal holding the bill. Paypal sent me a couple of nasty e-mails, but oh well...
