1 less tractor driver today

I find it hard to believe, 2nd time in 3 years now its happened. The bright kid in the photo decided to check out this morning, whole life ahead of him. I believe he was a HS senior, not sure about the naval uniform, his dad was a navy man, works in the nearby arsenal. Its been awhile since I've seen any of them but, I did sort of hire the kid, was good to have around.

He was a trusted hand at our place, dealing with horses, chores, repairs, ran the 3600 ford tractor and NI spreader. Never saw this coming. Good young man he was, was always a pleasure to have him work and to work with.

I don't suppose its even worth to ask why when a person does this, especially a kid with so much going for him.

I can't imagine what his folks are going through, he had a brother, a twin. These folks sure could use some comfort of thoughts and prayer.

I'm baffled, never makes much sense to me, show has to go on, there has to be good news somewhere right LOL !

I am led to believe it was not an accident. I don't know much more than that, link to the FB page says nothing, I don't do FB anyway, but was a nice photo of him, my dad thought the world of the kid.

If he checked out on his own it could be a number of reasons. Failure to pass the exam to get into the Naval Academy, failure to get into the school he wanted, GF dumping him, not going to graduate on time, dad pushing too hard or just plain mental problems he couldn't get past.

Been real close that that problem myself, thoughts and prayers to the family, very hard to deal with.

And he had a nice little honey to hang on to. It doesn't get any better than that!
We just came home after spending a week with the young grand children. I am more convinced than ever that all the time spent in front of a screen watching fast paced, realistic fantasy, and listening to loud music, is damaging our youth, who of course, ARE our future.
The recent violence involving firearms got our illustrious leaders all worked up.
Do these types of quiet tragedies get any attention?

I was thinking along those lines, his dad was aces, I use to meet him or his mom, while they waited for him to finish up if he or oftentimes we were running a little late, before he was of age to drive. With all the darned freaks in that area, according to the law, and many we've experienced as local workers, this kid was the exception. Even when we were running late, his dad was never in any hurry, meaning when the work is done, he's done. At first it was a summer job, extra money, after school or just weekends as he played sports, you could tell dad wanted him to learn a good work ethic, which he did, never late, never any BS, had another kid work beside him, about these same, turned into a unreliable pain in the butt. I was not too sure what aspirations he had in life, knowing at some point he'd be out of school and onto the next part of life, he did like mechanical things, like cars and the equipment, was fun to show him or teach him things about it.

At that age, could have been girl troubles, or similar but he was a level headed kid from good home and family, my father was friendly with his dad whom has a good job at the arsenal.

Just one those things that's so hard to figure out.

If it was suicide, have everybody keep a close on his twin. They usually do this in pairs. It happened in my wife's family two days after the funeral. Someone needs to be on suicide watch 24/7.
My condolences to the family.

Agree. About 12 years ago, my 19 yr old nephew shot himself. Both daughter (17) and her boyfriend (19) were at the funeral Six months later, daughter's boyfriend shot himself. Year after he did it, his younger brother (17) tried the same thing. Luckily the brother lived. Has to take anti-seizure medication for the rest of his life, but he's alive.

I know what the family is going through and time does put a scab on the emothional wound, but it doesn't go away. Condolences to all.

I am so sorry, make sure siblings and friends get counseling immediately. It is very common for copycat suicides.

We lost two boys here last year.

Teens always have and always will wear their hearts on their sleeves. They can be tough years to get through. Some twenty years ago I read the results of a study that found that a kid who is a member of a Christian youth group is 80% less likely to get into trouble as a young adult than one who is not. It makes for a more stable peer group and stronger support circle.

I mentioned that to my dad, he apparently sat and conversed with him last Sunday, about his plans after graduating, likely headed into the Navy like his dad whom was a retired career Navy man. I would think his dad is aware being the kind of guy he is.

That first statement is true, exactly how he was, especially with care of the horses, often would come back later if one was sick or not leave until things were ok, same concern as an owner has. I don't have any facts but realize a young man can get in over his head with a young lady if something happens the he can't handle and or something similar. What is sad, in life, you don't get many people like this and there is one less today, world was a much better place with him.
