OT 97 Dodge Ram 150

The safety release for the hood won't move to let me open the hood. The inside lever releases the hood, it raises a couple of inches, but the release lever under the hood is stuck or something. Any way to get to it without breaking out the plastic grill? Thanks, Chris

Friend of mine broke the handle on his. I'm not sure exactly how he did it, but he
was able to poke at it through the grill with a long screwdriver and got it released.

I have a 99 ram. There was a recall on it for the hood latch, I don't know if it included the 97 year or not. If you fiddle with it long enough with screw drivers and maybe your own designed rod/bar.

I"ve had that trouble from time to time on my "97. I"ve always been able to free it up by applying pressure to the release latch behind the grill and working the hood up-down against it. Once you get it open, make sure you clean and lubricate the latch.

If I remember correctly, the hood latch recall was to fix a component that would rust off, causing the hood to open while driving. Your truck would have been part of the recall, but it is probably unrelated to your troubles now.
