Barn Pictures

These are some pictures of our barn back home in the 1980's. A tornado came thru one night in July and took the corner of the roof off. One part of it ended up on/thru a little trailer that I had built.
The one picture is off the old hay tools that were long retired long before I was born but always remained in the barrel my whole life. Some other items that were hung up after retiring are pictured too.

John B.,

All really neat photos. Just love the one of the old haying tools, showing the big posts and the bracing with the sun shining through. Very cool.

No unfortunately we tore it down about 2000. Some one used the lumber in their kitchen. The two grainery doors were used for their food pantry door.

We used to have a hay fork just like that one. Dad drove the load of hay up into the barn then he would unhook 1 horse walk it along side the wagon back outside then hook it to the rope. My job was to set the fork. That fork wasn't very heavy so it had to be pulled back down from the peak to the wagon. He would go back in the mow to mow the hay away and mom drove the horse to pull it up to the track and away to where I dumped it by pulling the rope. Later he got a grapple fork and when that thing tripped to come back down to the wagon, it dropped like a rock and you better not be under it.

we had the grapple style of forks. also a couple of the hay knifes. they work great in the winter to cut the crust off of round bales.
